Subject: Mallory Park round one

Hello race fans, round one at Mallory Park saw Martin and I get ready for the first race of the season. The sidecar behaved without problems this time and practice seemed fairly good with the engine sounding ok but not as free as it could be. Race one started fine with the outfit shooting into first place and pulling a gap on the opposition. Everything was going fine until we got stuck behind a bike outfit at the worst place it could have been, the bus stop. The bike outfit was going so slow that i had to go down to first gear and wait for him to crawl out of it and then we could carry on. This let Ralph Remnant and Chris Taylor past as they came up to this section a good while later and could just fly straight through. We managed to pass Chris and pull Ralph in a bit but on the last lap into Edwinas i was carrying alot of extra speed and the sidecar lifted, this upset martin a bit and he missed his grip and fell off. Race two was a case of finish and settle for points as Martin was a bit brused and we had not scored yet. Not such a good start but we got our heads down and carried on. When we came to Edwinas for the first time the front locked up and we lost steering, not really sure why as it was fine the rest of the race and we had to go down the escape road. This brought us out behind Chris again so we set off to catch him. We were making good progress when he blew up in front of us so we settled into second place. The solos faired slightly better but Martin was trying out a new teflon coated piston which was a gamble that did not pay off. The coating was a good bit thicker than is ideal and made the engine run tight. To guard against this Martin up jetted and took it easy so finished towards the back but managed to get the bike home safe both races. My solo race was a much better result though. I got a brilliant start and steadily overtook my way to the front. I finished in 5th place overall and second in class. Race two was good but not as good as race one. I got another brilliant start but got stuck behind Steve Conneely at gerrards and boxed in. I then made good progress untill my clutch started slipping and then my throttle stuck open for the last two laps. Managed to get the bike to the finish though but only in 12th place. Not bad though as i started 17th. Check out the blog for more details. Next round is at three sisters which is not a favourite of mine and Martins but we will have a go. Thanks to Gaz Jack Cath and Phil for the help and support.
