Subject: Nutro Natural Chouce Lite Killed my Dachshund

I am the former owner of a 11 year old dachshund.
Yesterday evening we opened a new bag of Nutro Natural Choice Lite dry dog food.

Last night my dog died of apparent organ failure in the hands of an emergency vet.

He has been on Nutro Natural for a few years, and would vomit bile intermittently, but I did not make the connection to his food.
We fed him last night, and he ate reluctantly. Shortly afterwards, he began panting uncontrolably, and his eyes were bugged out of his head.
He went into anaphylactic shock, and we rushed him to the emergency vet, who tried to get him to breathe, but he was unable to.
His heart was still strong, and beating regularly, the vet told us.

My beloved Schatzie died last night, far too young.

This Consumer Affairs website has MANY people recounting a lot of the same stories.
Only they caught their poisening in time. I did not.

When I called PetSmart in San Marcos, TX, where I bought the food last month, they offered to refund my purchase price of the brand new just opened bag of food, even without a receipt. Nice of them, but it makes me wonder why they are so gererous and eager to rectify the situation.

I have filed an 'event' with the FDA
