Subject: Nutro small bits lamb & rice

Our Yorkie, Trudeau, 8.5 years old was euthanized on Aug 19, 2013. Until January 2013 for almost 8 years Trudeau was fed Nutro small bits lamb & rice. In January of 2013 Trudeau suddenly stopped eating the Nutro, no matter how many times we offered, he refused. At the same time, he began vomiting, and at one incident there was blood droplets over the carpet. Trudeau was a house dog, pampered, always to the Vet if any problem, fully inoculated, groomed, but beginning in January food problems began. We switched food, offered Royal Canin Yorkshire28, ok for a week, then stopped eating kibble. Went to wet, canned food, ok for a month or two, but Trudeau was noticeably losing weight and muscle mass. By late May we did an ultrasound which showed his stomach lining and lymph nodes were swollen and he had stopped eating for the most part. We refused further testing, biopsies, etc., and began Prednisone, and Metronidazole therapy. His appetite increased greatly for 2 months due to the Prednisone, but he gained no weight. On July 26, even while taking his Prednisone steroid, he stopped eating almost entirely except for a few tablespoons. He eagerly came to the food dish, but then turned away. We offered every canned dog food or table food imaginable, but it was a challenge to get him to eat anything at all. During this awful scenario Trudeau was always in contact with his Vet, and we knew he was dying. When diarrhea set in August 17th & 18th we knew it was time to end the downward spiral. Confusing the issue was Trudeau's fight. He was not a lump, he remained semi-active, went for a daily walk, continued to guard our property, bark at strangers, looking out the window constantly, offering us a tad of hope that there was quality to his life, but his failure to eat and thrive was the death knoll. He died way too young. We miss him like crazy.
