Date Posted: 11:49:27 05/31/07 Thu Saturday night is the best night on Mathew Street and it gets packed early on. I have seldom seen any trouble there ..not like Slater Street. Lots of police there and good doormen. I am there at least twice a month with my hubby and we love it sooooooo se ya Saturday night. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 21:14:09 06/17/09 Wed Hi There...I look after the website for the Grapes owners Sue and Paul Bristow. You will find that the Grapes still retains that family pub atmosphere and I think that's why it gets so crowded on any given night. Out of the three weekend nights I would say that Saturday is the busiest with Sunday a close second. With regards to being rough.I have been drinking at the Grapes pub since 1957, yes 42 years, so I could be considered to be a regular there. I will narrow it down a bit and say that since 2004 I have only ever seen two fights at the pub. The doorstaff are excellent at their job and handled both situations very professionally and very speedily. Both fights, from begining to end, may have lasted 1 minute. I would certainly recommend the Grapes for that family night out and yes, certainly escort your wife there and feel secure at all times. Hope to see you there.....enjoy Tom [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
