There are lots of things to do. If you are into music, just go downtown and stop in some bars / clubs. the music starts around 11am or noon and goes until 2am or later - lots of extremely talented musicians waiting for their big break! 4th of July is a big festival downtown by the river, with fireworks at 9pm - very fun, we managed to catch it last time around (dancing that day is over and results are supposed to be at 2pm, so you could make it downtown easily). Check out www.tripadvisor.com for ideas - they are a great source with real people traveler reviews. Opryland itself is phenomenal, truly a sight to behold. The area by the university also has great restaurants and bars and little shops. If you like history, there is the Hermitage, and a replica of (i think) the Parthenon, which is supposed to be pretty cool. OpryMills Shopping Center (a short shuttle or longish walk past the Grand Ole Opry) has outlet stores and some fun restaurants.
