[> I am typing this in Ireland have just left killarney. what a fantastic week. I had a 10-11 dancer and it was his first time and although his results said 13th online ours say he came in 12th place which is a fantastic achievement for him. `it was an extraordinary experience and (inside) -- Tallagirl, 12:00:58 02/15/08 Fri [1]

the calibre of dancing was outstanding. To go there for the first time was eye opening and we learned such a lot from it. All of my sons results were very even so we know that he did very well - one judge gave him a lower result than the rest so that brought his overall down a bit. Now I have to have a look and see what `irish points mean now that he has had some!!! There were 28 in his comp with an extra person added and one who didn't dance so it evened out to 28. They recalled a third. There are three chances to get a recall. one chance in each solo and then a third chance in the championship. Very glitzy overall - even some of the boys had a bit of makeup on. I would definitely recommend it.

I understand the makeup aspect for stage performances, TV, etc. In fact, my son has worn make up when he performed in ballet performances a few years back and also when he was dancing with Riverdance -- all the guys used some sort of bronzer or foundation to cut down on the shine. He just wouldn't do it for a competition, not even World's. He does however do the tanning bit, either by taking advantage of sun if it's around or hitting the tanning parlors a few times.

[> [> [> [> [> if he has a tan, he isn't going to be glowing white then...makeup generally is so that you don't look like a zombie under stage lights...but makeup for the stage is a whole different ball game than street makeup anyway. -- Lee in Darwin, 15:21:51 02/18/08 Mon [1]

He was quite pale!
