Subject: I think the closest I can come to your dark places I find on the other side of the equation as a reader. When an author truly has found those pearls and conveys that in their writing it cannot but affect the true reader. When "real" characters such as Casey, Pamela and Pat suffer, I suffer along with them, learn and grow with them. Of course, I also enjoy celebrating with them, too. Is art of whatever sort worth it regardless of the financial payback, I think so. Even if it only satisfies your own soul, it is worth the creation. When it touches the hearts and souls of many, as yours has done, it is certainly worth more, IMHO, than the books that sell millions of copies but are formulaic and do not speak in any true way to the human condition.
