  • Hi Tracy, thanks for the welcome. I am from the Southeastern part of the US...Alabama. I spent the last 2 yrs studying & reading in planning for my trip to Scotland, May 2009. Now we are thinking about a trip to Ireland in 2011. I really have known nothing much about the country, and historical fiction is a fun way to begin to get your feet wet when trying to learn about the history & culture of a place.   • Hi Cindy, and thank you for the warm welcome! Congratulations on producing an excellent story. I look forward to more of the story in book 2, and will try to jump in when I have at least caught up with everyone. So you are making a group trip to Ireland in the fall...I look forward to hearing the accounts of the trip. As I mentioned before, it is looking like Ireland will be the next big trip for us, and I am wide open about what to do & where to go. What is the progress on the 3rd installment in the series?     • The progress on the third book- I think that depends on the day you ask. :) It's coming together, but at this point it's such a mess of bits and pieces, some chapters done, others not, that I despair of it growing up to become a novel that makes any sense at all. But I've felt this way about the last two books as well, and I managed with those, so I'm sure at some point this one will come together. I am hoping to have the first draft done within the next eight months or so. After that it goes to a circle of readers and I start re-writes from their patient notes and insertions. I know I have at least one of them on board from the last manuscript, and am hoping to bribe/wheedle/beg the other two into helping me with this one. Ireland is every bit as beautiful as people say it is. You'll have a fantastic time- the people are very friendly and always willing to help point you in interesting directions for things to see and do. (NT) -- celtgirl, 14:43:33 07/27/09 Mon

        • My beta readers are hugely important to me. There is just so much you miss as the writer of the work, I've been over it so many times by then that I see what I think ought to be there on the page, rather than what is. My brain seems to just automatically supply the correct phrasing and so then I think it's there. Plus it takes a long time for a book to detach itself from the author's liver, as another writer friend of mine put it- so sometimes things don't flow as well as they should, but I simply can't see it.   • I dunno...can I love two men at once? (grin) Having only read the 1st book, I don't think I have a "mature" opinion yet of either man. However, by the end of EU, I am of the opinion that Jamie still has a bit of work to do before he's in a mental position to be ready for another relationship...although he was definitely moving forward. One thing that surprised me at the end was knowing, not that the Reverend was the bad guy, but that he targeted Pamela specifically because of her relationship with Jamie. One would assume she was targeted because of Casey. However, Jamie is a bigger fish in the larger picture of things. Knowing his relationship with Pamela was what caused her brutal attack can't help but have a major impact on Jamie...looking foreward to seeing how that plays out in the next book.
