• This whole chapter gave me the shivers -- and not in the snowstorm sense. Do you think the police really were questioning Emma or did she make that up at Love's behest to get Casey to leave town? After all, if Casey was seriously a suspect, would they not have come and questioned him directly? I also wondered that Casey actually did go to the police. That he didn't click that it might be a set-up and simply leave once the storm had passed. Was he just not capable of leaving poor Rosemary's body there? I also did wonder just how worried and then furious poor Pamela was and what she had to say to her husband when he showed up on the doorstep the next afternoon. (NT) -- Carla, 05:33:00 07/29/09 Wed

• I got my book! Yay me! I started reading last night...I think I made it up to chap 18 before bedtime. I must say there are a couple of things I am chomping at the bit to dissect (and I am sure you can guess!) but will wait til we get to those chapters. As for this chapter, it seems to me to be the beginning of Casey and Pamela going down their own separate roads toward separate troubles. • Oh yeah I definitely think it was all a setup. Love will do anything to get rid of Casey and have Pamela, because ultimately she's the prize. So what better way than to through the suspicion of infidelity & murder on him. As for the police...well we know that he & Emma did report their story b/c we're told "The sheriff had been mildly skeptical, but had let them go...Thus far, Casey had heard nothing."   • I just wish the two of them could learn to confide in each other, because I think it might have prevented some of the things that happen in the chapters to come. I think both Casey & Pamela believe themselves to be protecting the other, but I think they were both making bad decisions to hide the separate dangers they find themselves in, particularly with regard to Hagerty's intentions toward each of them. • Thank God for re-reads and discussions, even if I'm not the most active participant. I have to confess, I didn't get the whole 'set up' scheme on my first read. I understood more as the chapters went on but at this point? no clue what the plan was :-) I do remember not liking or trusting Emma in the beginning of the chapter (that was probably more jealousy...on Pamela's behalf of course *g*), like WHY does Casey have to take her, why was she not more upset at her friends death etc. At the end when she got in Love's car, I felt sorry for her - I didn't get the feeling she enjoyed (nor wanted) doing whatever Love was making her do to Casey.   • This ~is~ my first read, and when Casey & Emma showed up at the cabin & found the dead prostitute, as soon as it became clear that someone wasn't waiting in the wings to murder them as well, I figured it was some attempt at either setting up Casey or getting him out of the way for the night, for whatever reason. Seems like it would have been a better set up if dead woman had been found in Casey's trunk in a routine police stop by the locals, so perhaps it was the latter. (NT) -- Tess, 09:30:59 07/29/09 Wed
