Pamela finds Fr. Kevin in the otherwise empty Church of the Assumption.

Fr. Kevin tells Pamela that Emma was dead of a massive drug overdose. Her body was found in the Mystic River.

Pamela now knows beyond a doubt what she must do, and Fr. Kevin quickly figures out her intentions.

The two debate issues of theology and love.

Fr. Kevin tries to dissuade Pamela from putting an end to Love Hagerty's life, and yet inexplicably reveals where she can find Guilio Bassarelli this particular evening.

Pamela does what she knows is necessary in order to save Casey's life.

Mermaid in a Bowl of Tears, Part Two, A Little Irish Homestead
Ch. 18, Scotsman's Lament



We walk through the doors of The Cracked Pot pub in Belfast, one of the few places where an English soldiers can safely drink in Northern Ireland. There we meet three such soldiers - Sandy, Neil and Donny, all originally from Scotland.

A spilled drink causes a ruckus, which turns into an all-out brawl. All three soldiers are entangled in it, until a blue-eyed stranger persuades them to leave through the back door into a waiting car.

We are formally introduced to the blue-eyed stranger; his name is Robin, and he tells the 3 young men that he's taking them back to their base.

But they were not headed to the base. It was a set-up. Two other men were waiting when Robin stopped the car. First Neil, then Donny were killed execution style. But Robin toyed with Sandy, making him sing an old Scottish song before he shot him. Robin walked away from the three bodies without looking back. But he didn't forget to cross himself as he left the scene.
