• I was happy that Casey & Pamela wanted to include Lawrence in their move, as part of their family. I still wasn't sure if the poor lad could completely accept them or their love yet though, considering his life, but I hoped so. Casey and Pamela would make wonderful parents to a teenager.       • I believe he was the first President to allow Gerry Adams into the US. • I'm probably the only one who worried that Pamela was too young to be 'saddled' with raising a troubled teen under her roof. Casey, yeah, he was well-suited for the job. But Pamela was only separated from her teens by a few short years. There are few things that can wreak havoc on a marriage like the tricks of a wayward teen, and Pamela and Casey weren't exactly on firm ground yet, marriage-wise.     • She does seem older than her years, I agree. She always did seem older. But I still don't think it's good to take in a teenager until you really know and understand teenagers in general, and troubled teenagers in particular. It is sure a whole 'nuther world. That's just a personal thing from one who has taken in older foster children, including one named Lawrence (Little Larry in our house). Now I'm straying too far from the conversation!       • I don't know if this is applicable to the situation between Casey & Pamela, but from personal observation, I have noticed that people in marriages that have (cough) issues, they sometimes bring third parties into the situation (friends with troubles that move in with them, for example)....and it seems like it is often a buffer for their own problems. I've seen this happen often. I wondered if Lawrence might have been...intentional or not....a buffer for them.       • Oh don't apologize E - of course you should speak to it, especially if you have experience (unless you mean you shouldn't speak because it brings back bad memories). I sometiemes (alot actually) have a hard time, especially if I've read the whole book, speaking to just the moment in question w/o infusing what I know happens in the future. Does that make sense? • I don't know that I would have whatever it is that's required to take a troubled teen into my home, although I hope that if faced with somebody like Lawrence who truly had no options I would step up to the plate. It's surely a test of many things, though, as all children are. On the other topic, I don't think Casey can be a minor member of anything. Even if he wanted to stay in the background or have a small role, the men about him would not let it happen, they would naturally turn to him. He's also not the type to stand by and watch others make predictable mistakes or treat people badly. I think, for Casey, either he's in or he's out, there's nothing in between. • 28) I don't see Casey & Pamela as parents to Flip but rather as older siblings, which Casey has a bit of experience with. 29) What's the saying the mind is willing but the body is weak...I think Casey really wants to walk away from the IRA, afterall it's much safer for his family, but so much of who he is stems from being a part of them that I often wonder if laboring and watching after ruffians will be enough.
