Subject: The Tipping Point Approaches...

I thought I'd give you all a wee update on where I'm at with 'Flights of Angels' and I'll throw in a snippet or two for good measure.

I've had many people asking where I'm at with 'Angels' or 'the third book' as most people refer to it. :) In fact I can't go downtown too often, or out socially without someone asking when I'll be done. To which I smile mysteriously in response, because who the heck knows exactly when I'll be done, much less when the book will be ready for public consumption.

But, I can tell you this, I am rapidly approaching the 'tipping point' where the book has accrued enough critical mass, the writing at this point becomes more rapid, almost as though I'm going downhill now rather than up- of course with that comes the feeling of being slightly out of control and also that this rapidly expanding mess of paper is never really going to turn into a book with a coherent timeline and plot sequence. This is probably the most discouraging point in the book writing process, where I start to believe that I really ought to have taken that job as a Walmart greeter. I start to ask myself what the point is, and why in the name of all that is holy I ever thought I could write. In fact it all feels a little masochistic. I question the plotlines, the sub-stories underlying the larger historical context, etc.

This also means I have to have a serious talk with my family about their expectation of hot meals and a clean house, because all that kind of goes out the window once the book swallows me up, which it always does near the end.

All that being said, however, I kind of think I'll have a first draft done by about November of this year. Well, I will if Casey cooperates, he's being a bit more circumspect of late than is his natural wont, but I think he'll open up once I get myself and certain golden-haired gentleman out of Russia.

I'll post a few snippets below. I thank everyone for their patience, this is a long road and I never really know what lies around the next corner for myself or for my characters. I am merely the vessel after all, so I rely on them to set the pace.

BTW large chunks of the book are done, you know where one chapter actually follows another- that's kind of exciting for me, because I know I haven't totally lost my way.
