• 75.1) I'm pretty sure you all know that music is the main focus in my family, so won't bore you with detail. Yes, I can sit still when I must, and I know not to applaud between (orchestral) movements - a profoundly stupid etiquette, btw. If it's beautiful, applaud and to hell with decorum, but I digress. Sure, I know all the rules, but sometimes you just can't sit still, it's impossible. And after a few drinks, it's even worse. Except that by then one doesn't move with much grace or rhythm! You can do a lot of swaying even while seated. ;-) (75.2) She came to the pub because she was only half alive without him. Sure she was still angry, but if she didn't need him and want him, she wouldn't have gone at all. She may have gone there with the thought that she needed to see him, to make sure he was okay. • (75.3) They re-committed themselves to each other, that was a huge step in the right direction. Now the barrier to further dialogue has been removed. (75.4) It had to be. If Hagerty couldn't kill him, then the city of Boston would have eventually. She wouldn't want Casey to be any different, even if she can barely stand the fear and violence. I don't think Casey would have done it...no that he wouldn't want to, but he also didn't want to tie her to his violent life; however, I am sure in time, he would have realized that she wasn't going to leave him whether they married or not, and so he would more than likely have proposed, eventually. • 2. I don't know if Pamela even knew why she went that night. To see that he was alright? Maybe to see that he was miserable without her? Maybe she just couldn't stand not being in his presence any longer. • 4. I don't think she would want to bend his will entirely, any more than he would want to bend her's entirely. Because then neither of them would be the same person. I find it very interesting that Pamela takes a lot of heat for going off and doing risky things, but Casey and Jamie much less so. They may know the lay of the land better than she does, but they still put themselves in harm's way all too often and knowing the place is no guarantee of safety in Northern Ireland at this particular time. • 2. I think most concerts are meant to be parties- I couldn't believe that people were sitting at a GBS concert, are they not human? How do you do that when Alan says you need to get up and dance? :) 3. These two have an incredibly strong physical connection, Casey's exploiting that a wee bit here. Pamela came knowing what was likely to happen, but there are still unresolved feelings and anger too, and sometimes, even if the man is your husband and you're used to him and his ways, the feelings can overwhelm you and scare you a bit. • Sorry I messed up my numbering above. That should be one and two above not two and three. 3. It's a level they both admit they can communicate on when words aren't working for them. Earlier in the book it says that it's their truth, their language, for words are not their kingdom. Not that Casey doesn't melt her with words occasionally too. It repairs things enough for him to go home and them to resume daily life together. And as Susie pointed out, it starts other things too. :) 4. No, not really, but she's still afraid for the big, dark stubborn man she married anyway. 5. Casey is a bit of a traditionalist and he's got a superstitious streak in him. At some point later he tells her (though it didn't make it into the 'Mermaid') that he wouldn't have asked her to live with him, if he didn't intend to marry her. It's not in his nature.   • I have a question, Cindy, which maybe you can answer. You describe Casey as having Hibernian charm, I suppose to mean Irish charm, but I'm a bit confused. In Jack Whyte's books the Hibernians are Scots, no mention of being Irish, even though the people immigrated from what is now Ireland to Caledonia, aka Scotland.     • In Roman times when they referred to Hibernia they meant Ireland. In the Oxford English Dictionary it says 'Hibernian- of or referring to Ireland. A native or inhabitant of Ireland.
