• (56-1) In this wee section of the book, we see Pamela and Casey enjoy time together and relax a bit in their own cozy, Irish refuge. It gives the readers a break as well from the harsh realities of Belfast life still to come! (56-2) Of course Casey went back for Shane, he's stepped in and taken punishment rightly due Shane; he values the lives and well-being of others too much to ignore someone in trouble. I'm sure Declan would have done the same, especially if it was Casey in trouble. I'm not so sure about Roland and Matty. Shane, well, no, I don't think he would have turned back. He's too much a scared boy still to take on the honourable, though sometimes foolish, moral obligations of a man. As for myself, I would like to think I would risk my own life to help another's but the theory has never been tested, and I dearly hope it never is. • (56-3) I'm not surprised to see a seal come to Casey's rescue. Cindy's love of animals seems to surface frequently in her books, often showing ethereal or other-worldly qualities. In this case, I can almost believe a seal might behave this way. They are inquisitive creatures and show an interest in humans. Several times I've had encounters with seals where they played about near DH and myself just as curious about us as we were about them. I think it takes a strong person to find courage, bravery and selfless motivation in a situation like this. • This chapter was based on real life events, in the real world the men in question were known as 'The Magnificent Seven' and the escape of my 'Fabulous Five' pretty much mirrors the real life escape, cock-ups and all.
