• Chapter 31 Pamela did spend her summers in Cape Cod, so she would have had something of a taste of rural life there. I also think a large part of her contentment arises from the fact that she and Casey are together, relatively safe and this is a place for them to escape the turmoil and sorrow of daily life in Belfast. • Chapt. 32 Q1) No, I don't think she has. I think it's not until she can receive absolution from Casey that she will be fully cleansed. Q2) Given Lawrence's history, and the obvious value of the watch, I wasn't surprised at Casey's assumption. I think his abrupt manner and harshness stemmed from disappointment in Lawrence, more than anything else. He's the type that would rather have nothing than to go against his moral code to have something, however well intentioned. 3) I think because his hurt was so fresh and raw, and Pamela so understanding, it was easier for him to open up right then. It was also dark, which somehow makes it easier to bare ones soul. He'd built a trust in Casey and Pamela, and Casey had just betrayed it, he was probably also seeking to test Pamela's trust and belief in him, wanting to have the worst over with as quickly as possible. To me that was always the essence of the matter- Pamela wasn't soiled by what she did as she did it to save Casey- as we said its not adultery, but...its the keeping something back from her husband that is causing the problem. I mean, I don't blame her- heck, I wouldn't want Casey to know either, but this is not something you want him to find out about from someone else. And that's what I feared the most in Boston-OMG, what if he finds out? And then there's that not so little issue of whether she ever "felt" anything or not. • 4b- LOL- I know what you mean- and hopefully she can't sing worth a darn either. My sister in law who first gave me Outlander commented once on how unbelievable Jamie Fraser was- hot bod, handsome, great lover (and virginal to boot) spoke all languages. And all I could really say was- well, he can't blink! And uh, he gets seasick! But mainly, he cannot sing. BTW- to me Casey's flaw is his smoking. • 4) You're right, it is nice that they've all found each other and that, as Pamela says, they can all give each other the only thing they really need: love. I think Casey needs to be needed, as well, and that need is more than amply met for him in his home. • I think my opinions have been covered here. I felt sad for Lawrence, and figured it was not a stolen item, but wasn't surprised that Casey did. I agree that Pamela had to get that out and open with Casey to be clear of guilt, and I loved the Christmas scene althogether, until the anger... 4) orphans, misfits, outsiders, do seem to flock together and find comfort in each other. b- I burn stuff all the time too,,,,,, she is the same kind of cook as me.
