Deborah's mother and Scarlett's grandmother (Mary C Drum) passed away Wednesday afternoon. The family will be receiving at the church Saturday at 1:00pm and funeral services at 2:00pm at Winkler's Grove Baptist Church in Hickory. Please keep the family in your prayers.
Our regular photographer was unable to attend this year, so LMNC contracted with another photographer to come and take photos of the contestants as we have always done in the past. We did receive the cd with contestant's name on the cover, and we merely mailed it to the contestants that had purchased photos. We did not feel we had to look at the cd before we mailed them since we have never had any problems in the past with photos. We are attempting to contact the photographer to see what in the world is going on. They presented themselves to us as being professionals.

I really don't get it. LMNC is not that great of a title its more of a MONEY racket. It costs double what most nationals cost! That and the fact your tied down for a year and have to run yourself to death and pay pay pay to get a lousy bond at the end of the year! No thanks I'll keep my kid on national level where she can win at least $400 just in her age group titles not to mention the thousands of dollars for other titles that she can collect right then and there before she leaves! Bigger Crowns cheaper entries, less hotel times, bigger prizes sticking to the national levels! Oh and whats the deal with NC hair people give me a break you people aren't all that! You can get madonna and much better at nationals for less than the price you people are charging here! Its to much of a money racket! The Bud pictures are a freaking joke would never hold up anywhere but NC! Yet he charges as much as a Donna Mallard if not more! I just am ill and wish NC would make a change for once and get with the freaking program!

This was our first time going to the LMNC state. I was very excited about my daughter, Sabrina, competing albeit, nervous. With a little one you can never tell what they will do and what you will get from one minute to the next, let alone one day to the next. I was very happy with her performance. She did what I asked, she showed her personality on stage, as only she can. She does not model, she does not take lessons of any type. We did not have a hair/makeup person. We did not have a sportswear outfit that looked like everyone elses, but she was comfortable and happy in it. For her to come in 3rd, I was very happy and proud of her. Her father, on the other hand, thinks that she should have won on her own merit of beauty (no hair extentions, fake tans, false eyelashes, or such here on this girl, lol). We are hoping to come back next year with the knowledge that we have gained this year and apply it to Sabrina winning the Tiny division next year. So, Tiny Division girls, get yourselves ready for next year starting now! Congratulations to our new Queens, Tyler Jeske(Baby Doll), Lilly Peace(Mini), Summer Welch(Tiny), Sophia Kellstrom(Little Miss), Tara Schiphof(Junior Miss), Natalie Ray(Young Miss), Dominique Alston(Teen Miss) and Victoria VanDyke(Majestic)! Everyone did such a great job and I would like to thank all the directors for the hard work that they put into doing this pageant and to all the preliminaries that they held before it. Oh and if anyone has a list(all the awards 4th place on up)of the 15 months - 4 yrs old, I would love to have a copy of who won what since I was onstage I wasn't able to get that info. Thank you

I also watched the little group, as I was there with a friend who's daughter was a couple of age groups up, and I couldn't disagree with you more. If you read the LMNC booklet you would have known that the book states they could wear either the white shoes& socks OR clear shoes, (check the pics from last yrs. winners, Grace Petoleti 2 age groups down won wearing clear shoes.) Sophia was my pick from the first time I saw her, she was obviously a very stunning natural beauty. She never appeared overly made-up or fake, her talent was wonderful, I thought her clothing was great, and she seemed completely relaxed on stage. The other girls were great also, but I can completely see why she was chosen. I later heard that this was her first time at State competition, which was remarkable for the poise she showed there. I think it is extremely sad for adults to bash children. All the girls came there already winners, and not winning one pageant doesn't make them any less a winner. They all did great, I was proud of all of them. I for one, am happy for all the girls who won! Congrats to Sophia & all the other girls of the 2009 LMNC Court of Queens!!

The message has been removed, but people should beware of this woman! She is sneaky and spiteful and no ones friend. She is only out for herself and will do whatever she has to, not caring who she hurts in the process. All of the stories you have heard about her are true.

We gave both contestants the permission to use the basketball and the drumsticks with their routine. If a contestant is using this with her routine and it is not just brought out and just sitting on the stage (prop) they can use. Both contestants stated they did use and needed to use in their routine.

Who really runs our hobby industry? Who makes the money? Who controls the parents? It is not the directors. Name me more than 2 directors that make any money at a pageant regadless of the level of the pageant. I know of 2 and only 2. And they both happen to be vendors also. Have any of you sat down and ran the numbers? I did a little investigative work over the last several days and there is no way even the big national pageants are making any money and I am shocked that some of the pageants are still going. They have to be putting a fortune of their own money into these pageants to keep them going. Sit down and pull up an spredsheet and just make a budget for a pageant. Start with a prelim and then work your way up to a national level like you would want to take your child to. Start with the cash pay out. That right there will sink a big pageant with a large payout. Then add in the next big expense the hotel. A nice/decent hotel (nothing fancy) will cost you well over a $1000 for a day if you are extremely lucky and find a hotel in a not so popular part of town. A hotel bill for a national pageant is well over $10,000 and Tim is there to emcee it is a minimum $3000 and that is just for a Sat/Sun event. Add Friday night to that and, well you can imagine. Now add in crowns. that would have to be another minimum $10,000 and that is on the low side. Add in banners at $15 each for a basic banner times the number of a titles given out. And then if they give out gifts or prizes (even if they are cheap in your opinion as you all always complain about) just take $10 times the number of kids. And that is on the very low side. Most systems I know give out a lot more than that per kid. Just think about all the things you see at a pageant. Then take the number of kids that are usually there. We can take 50 for an example (but what pageant pulls these numbers now days?) and you average what they pay. Remember most people enter pageants on a HUGE discount and don't enter all events. I will use an advertised example for this exercise. Say they can enter everything for $500. 50 contestants times $500 would be $25,000. Most Nationals systems that are still around give out far more than $25,000. And don't kid yourself (LOL) these directors are not getting kick backs from the hotel to cover their fees. Including the meals. Call a hotel you have had a food event at. Even the ones that only do hotdogs/pizza type. they will still charge you a minimum $20 for kids. The directors do not make any money off the food event like they used to. Those deals do not exist anymore. I am from the old days and I know how the systems used to work. But do you realize that "those" systems are not around anymore?? Name some systems and lets see what happened to them? I will give you 2 guesses and the first one won't count.
Now, lets discuss the industry as a whole. I have been involved in pageants in one aspect or another for many, many, many years. And it saddens me beyond belief what is happening to my beloved hobby. and yes, it is a hobby. For everyone involved but a handful. And who is this handful? Well who do you give your money too? Lets start at the bare basics. You have to have clothes. A dress, swimwear, casualwear, OOC. And that is the very bare basics. Now, there are sooooo many people making clothing in addition to all the people envolved in pageantry trying to sell their used clothes that the market is so oversaturated you have designers making cut rate deal, begging for business. I have seen it on the boards as recent as yesterday. And you have current pageant participants that are selling their clothes at dirt cheap or not at all. Do you not see a problem when someone has paid $2500 for a dress and has to give it away at $200-$300 IF they are lucky or just hang on to it because they can't sell it? So based on this info, I don't think the majority of pageant clothes makers are making a killing off the pageant industry. I think they make enough to get by.
The next area would be photos. And OMG I don't even want to open this can of worms but here goes. How much does the average person pay in photo fees? One setting is a min of $300 if not more like $400 or more. And each photo is over $100 after retouching. And what mom can choose just one? Admit it, most of you do multiple (and I mean multiple) photo shoots a year and none of us could just pick one photo. We all get at least one of each look hoping and praying that after the retouching one of these will be THE ONE photo that can't be beat. And although every picture of our child is georgeous to us, it is still not to the judges. Enough to get by but not to win the pageants consistinatly. I would not even want to begin to add up I have paid for photography and prints. And you have to have a variety (all touched up) to make a comp card, portfolio, or the new rage the series. Oh and even "natural" photos are touched up now. Face the hard truth people, the major photographers have a hold on our industry. And I know this has played out all over these boards before but lets really be honest about it. Think back on all the shoots you have been at. The H/M (which we will get to next) gives you and your daughter one on one attenetion. Your daughter gets to be dressed up and made beautiful and then the photographers puts her in the chair and cheers her on to pose this way, give me a big smile, now a smaller smile, let me see it in your eyes. Smile with your eyes, big eyes, turle your neck, whose in my camera etc etc etc. All that attention. And we each just eat it up over and over again. I admit, I do the same thing. I am not saying it is bad I am just saying it happens. We get in this situation and we have 2 people of "infulence" both focused soley (for the most part) on you and your daughter. And of course the conversation will switch to pageants in particual. It ALWAYS does. And you start asking opinions (or they offer them-happens both ways) and they are on the loose touting this pageant or that. and oh your daughter would do so good here or there and I will be at so and so pageant and so and so pageant holding another shoot and BANG they gotcha. You make your decisions on where you go based on that conversation. And what is in it for them? Are they catered too at these pageants? With free facilities? Free what? Trade out wins? Do they threaten these directors? What is it? Why do they support systems on one hand and then for what ever reason trash it until it has so few contestants they can't possibly continue? Remember when I asked about those pageants that are not around anymore? Hmmmmmmm think about it honestly. No one is asking you to admit anything openely just to yourself.
Ok, next subject. H/M artist. First, it is now required in order to do any good at any pageant that you have professional h/m regardless of who that is you choose to use. Second, have you sat in one of these h/m rooms? I have been around long enough that I can tell you Honestly that they actually sit in there and TRASH everyone that they can get to. INCLUDING those vary kids and parents that just walked out thier door. You get close to these people because you are putting all your trust in them to make your daughter the absolute best that they can look and you pay them a fortune (any amount these people charge is a fortune for the verly little amount of time they actually spend on any of the kids) so as all the gossip is going on you hear this and that about this and that pageant and how this pageant trades win (because their daughter didn't win the top prize but they don't include this info) and then just maybe you get a moment alone or simi alone with the h/m person and then BANG there it goes. They start in on this pageant and that. And again, you make your desicion based on their biased opion (because you know their star kid did not win at that pageant so it has to be rigged) or, they too are getting something from the pageant. How many pageants have gone down because of H/M people? Think about it.
Shall we move on? Lets!
Lastly, we have the coaches. And I know, everyone LOVES their coach. Both Kids and parents. No one is saying anything other than that. BUT, they are the main ones giving you direction on where to go. And of course we listen. They are our coach, they should have our best intrest at heart. And surely they would honestly tell you what pageants you should and should not go to. Why? What is in it for them? Why do they back one pageant and not another. Why, when they don't like the results, they will go to ends of the earth to destroy that pageant? And don't dare tell me "My coach doesn't dictate where I take my daughter" That is Bull Crap! YES they do. Mine has, and I know so many people that I can 100% honestly tell you that i know of atleast 1 instance that each coach that exists (and most it is much more) has told, hinted, influenced in some way where their students go. Be honest with yourself about the conversations you have had with your coach and "close associates". They may not come right out and say DO NOT GO HERE but they make it very clear what systems they support and more than anything else it shows in where they go and don't go.
But wait. After that last statement, lets sum all this up. So who makes the money in the pageant industry? If someone was not making money, then it wouldn't be as big as it is. Who walks out of the pageants with the money? Maybe 1 winner will win back more than they paid to enter (and it is very rare that ANYONE that is not directly associated with a vendor walks out of a pageant with a profit) We have already established that all but 2 directors are walking away having gone in the hole (And I mean a big hole). So who does that leave? Who is walking out with money? Here is your list:
1. Coaches. they have lessons at $100+ an hour and book as many as they possibly can. Even during crowning! Now that is greed.
2. H/M people. They all make far more than what it cost them to be there so they are walking out with hand fulls of money.
3. The Photo people. They come hold shoots even begging you to get photos as they walk off the stage so they don't have to pay a h/m person.
These 3 groups of people WOULD NOT BE THERE IF THEY WERE NOT MAKING LOADS OF MONEY. Can you honestly say it is not true? Honestly, to yourself can you say that? or do you know deep down inside what I am saying is true? If pageants are a hobby to us, why would there be ANYONE involved in ANYWAY that would be LIVING OFF THE PAGEANT HOBBY? If they were in it for the same reasons, then shouldn't it be a hobby to them too? Shouldn't they do it 1st for the love of the hobby and then 2nd for the love of the kids? These directors are bending over backwards to give you parents what you have requested in pageants and then the people making the decisions (or a VERY LARGE portion of your decisions) on where these kids go and don't go are the ones that MAKE THEIR LIVING OFF YOU! Can someone please explain to me how that is right? For you, your child, or anyone else?
It is time to be truly honest about what is going on. Directors, have your pageants the way you want to and don't listen to the leeches. Parents MAKE UP YOUR OWN DAMN MINDS. Don't be influenced by people that just want money from you. This hobby is going to END if things don't change. The wars being faught out on the boards have got to end. You can't even have pictures from an event put up for friends and family to follow along without people taking it upon themselves to JUDGE the pageant from the picturs. Are you people for real? First what qualifys you to judge any pageant from pictures? Snapshots? I don't care if it is a face pageant or not. Picture are not the same thing as the real thing. I can not believe how many people visit these trash boards. That happen to be the color pink. Give me a break. Are you people for real? You (and I know it is just a small majority but they make themself appear bigger) bash everything that has a pulse and even those that don't. What would possesion ANYONE to bash a child for being overwiegt. Or EVEN just discussing it? You KNOW YOU ARE HURTING PEOPLE. Does it feel good? You sit at home on your computer because you can't afford to be at the pageant going on that weekend (and don't deny it because we ALL KNOW that is who is doing this)and you sit home and get vindictive against the pageant, against the kids, against the parents, the clothes makers, photographers, coaches, h/m people, etc. Anything you can latch your claws in. And don't be stupid. We know who owns some of the worst boards and then turns around and holds thier hand out for YOUR MONEY! And we all fall for it!
The first thing that needs to occur is the "pink boards" need to volentary close. The owners of the boards need to shut them down. If you are an honest person that cares about the kids and this hobby, then you should be big enough to close your boards down. They have nothing but bashing on them. I just checked them all (and yes, I will be honest, I look at them all the time. It makes me sick to be bashed or have my child bashed or my friends. I know I should just stay away, that if I don't read it, it can't hurt me but that is easier said than done.)
Second thing that needs to be done is we ALL need to stop going to these trash sites and stop posting even when we are defending (the bashers just feed on it). I have started by eliminating them from my book marks. I hope everyone else will do the same. If you don't bash (which EVERYONE claims) then you have no business on those boards and if they are not visited, then they will not exist. ANYONE that claims to have even been there should be looked at as a basher. That is all that occurs there so if you are there, you are part of that vile.
Third thing that needs to happen is YOU and YOU alone need to decide what pageants you are going to support and why. If a director is trying the darn best to give you what you want, then support them. And you should NEVER expect to go to a pageant and win anything. Everything your child wins should be considered as a bonus. matter of fact, I wish they would do away with the money give out all together. It used to be an honor to win a crown and title. And then you paid your way to represent that title. We have moved a long way from that and it is a shame because the money keeps going up and up and up and these directors can not make the money to pay out much less not go in the hole and all they get is bashed to high heck and back. Even pageants that have given 110% of what they say they will give still get raked through the coals. Can someone please explain to me WHY would ANYONE bash someone after they have worked their butt off usually with no sleep over the weekend of the pageant and many nights before to give YOU and YOUR child what you have asked for. And you can't ask for the top title. If you are an honest person, than you should want an honest pageant win or loose and more than anything else you should learn to loose with grace and teach that to your child.
I have ratteled on long enough and not sure I got my point across. If anyone has anything to add please do. And if you agree with this than copy and post it everywhere or post your own.
PARENTS, TAKE BACK THIS HOBBY OR IT WILL DIE. We all see the slow painful death it is dying now. It breaks my heart for all those that used to love this.
Think back, how many good pageants are gone now? Ran into the ground by the leeches because we listened to the crap? I will be the first to say I have. I have tried my best not to in the past year but it is very hard.
And ANYONE that is making a LIVING off this industry should be boycotted. Get a real job and do this for the love. Break even or even make a little bonus for your hard work but not enought to live off of. That is not right. PERIOD. And I don't know any pageant parent that can "HONESTLY say that is not a true statement. Why do you think we are so looked down upon. Step back and look at it. You will think you were a NUT too! I was but I am not going to be controlled anymore.

Has everyone forgot about the unemployment rate for NC 12-15% one of the highest in the country. That is why we are unable to go this year, my husband is out of a job and we just can't go. We tried for sponsors and no one is giving anything extra. So I am sure that is true for a lot of people. Apparently the bad economy is not affecting some of you, and that is great. We will be there to watch and cheer you on.

We all know that everyone has been hit by the economy, but that doesn't mean you have to go in the poorhouse going to the state pageant. I switched my reservations from the host hotel to one that is right down the street, saving me over $45. The other hotel also provides breakfast (waffles, cereal, pastries, juice & coffee), when feeding a family of 4 that is a HUGE savings of probably $30 or more each morning, not having to eat out. My other reasons for switching were due to recent bad reviews that the host hotel received from guests that had complained about the reconstruction and bad customer service. I want our first experience at going to state to be a pleasant one, not one filled with stress about the hotel room. I hope that this helps someone else that may be trying to save some money as much as I try to in my own family. God Bless to you all and Good Luck fellow contestants.
