Deborah's mother and Scarlett's grandmother (Mary C Drum) passed away Wednesday afternoon. The family will be receiving at the church Saturday at 1:00pm and funeral services at 2:00pm at Winkler's Grove Baptist Church in Hickory. Please keep the family in your prayers.
Our regular photographer was unable to attend this year, so LMNC contracted with another photographer to come and take photos of the contestants as we have always done in the past. We did receive the cd with contestant's name on the cover, and we merely mailed it to the contestants that had purchased photos. We did not feel we had to look at the cd before we mailed them since we have never had any problems in the past with photos. We are attempting to contact the photographer to see what in the world is going on. They presented themselves to us as being professionals.

News and Current Events
Participation by Kids in Great Human Race, Gives and Receives
Four MHCO homes and over forty residents, staff and family members participated in the March 21, 2009 Great Human Race (www.thevolunteercenter.org) held in Durham, North Carolina. Not only was the Home a recipient of funds raised during the event courtesy of the Little Miss NC Court of 2008/2009, the residents of the Home participated in the 3K walk and donated their own funds to three of their favorite charities. Citing the wonderful work of the Queens in their fundraising for the Home, the kids of MHCO held a car wash weeks earlier and donated over $300 to three charities as part of the race. The Home’s paricipation was so active and well-received, they plan on making the event an annual part of the Home’s calendar. A special thanks to the Little Miss Queens of North Carolina for 2008/2009 for their hard work for the Home and for the inspiration to always give back to others.
PHOTO: The start of the Great Human Race Fundraiser in downtown Durham. Not only will MHCO received donations from this event thanks to the Little Miss NC Court of 2008/2009, the residents also raised their own money, donated it and participated in this year’s event.

The LMNC Queens Fundraiser Pageant is in 2 weeks! We really need your support. This open prelim is the next to the last chance (with the final prelim on Sunday 5/17) to qualify for LMNC State. This is your chance to support the state queens and their effort to raise money for The Masonic Children's Home of Oxford. To date the LMNC courts have raised over $87000 for the home. We are really trying to take it over the $100000 mark this year. $100 entry fee for all competitions! We welcome EVERYONE to compete at this pageant. It is a fund-raiser and no one will be turned away. If you have won an LMNC prelim already, come practice! Mini Majestic and the Majestic winner will win their $300 sponsorship fee paid to LMNC compliments of the state directors! The LMNC Queens Fundraiser Pageant will be held on May 16th at the Brookford Community Building in Hickory. Entry Fee is $100. This includes all competitions. The Mini-Majestic and the Majestic winner will win their $300 sponsorship fee paid to the state pageant compliments of the Little Miss North Carolina Pageant. The application is available now! I think the entry fees associated with pageants are absolutely ridiculous. The parents spend a lot of money on getting their child ready (we won't even begin to touch on the thoughts that I have about spray tanning, flippers, & fake nailing) and I think that the entry fees should be much more reasonable. After seeing that there are some legit pageants out there that don't require the above mentioned in parentheses, I thought I would get my daughters involved in a few pageants, but apparently some of these parents have lost sight of what the pageants were originally started for. They really are in it for themselves rather than for the child. Come on people, fake nails, fake teeth, spray tanning, and fake eyelashes, on a 3 year old??? A child should be a child, not the next Jon Benet. My daughters are 13 and 14 years old, my older one is almost 6' tall. I'm curious to what the pageant judges would think about such a tall 14 year old. Luckily, I don't have to dye her hair, she's a natural wheat blonde, not that I would consider it anyways. Does anyone know the pageantry list in Eastern Tennessee/Western NC/VA, etc? And any suggestions that you all may have?

The Johnston County Young Miss pageant is on Sunday, May 17th, 2009. The pageant was originally scheduled for that Saturday but the LMNC fundraiser is on Saturday and there are a lot of Dance Recitals that weekend so the LMNC queens and potential contestants would not be able to attend. We changed to accomodate everybody. The date has just not been updated in the list of prelims. Let me know if you are interested. Great,,,huge,,,auditorium. Thanks.

This is of HIGH Importance!!! If you won a title division or was a runner-up from the Little Miss Asheville Pageant that was held on Feb. 21st and you HAVE NOT received your state paperwork, YOU NEED TO CONTACT THE DIRECTORS AT (828)994-0912 and let them know your name and what title you won. David West did not turn in the paperwork and they do not have anyone's information. If you are planning on going to state , it is imperitive that you contact them as soon as possible.

Taylor won the cabarrus County American Red Cross STARZ singing competition last night at JM Robinson High School. Taylor competed against 14 other contestants and took home the grand prize of $1000.
