Subject: track safety

IS it just me or does there need to be some rules at this track. It is a fun place to go hang out but not so fun when there is at least one crash a month. If the track was prepped alot more it would help alot. Iknow this kind of thing costs a little extra money, but it will be well spent in the long run. Rules are another big issue. Rules and regulations and better track conditions would bring in a whole other type of racers. More racers at the track means more money for the track. Drag racing can be and is a family sport, but I'm scared to bring them in fear of them getting run over in the pits or by the return lane bleachers. signed:: life long racer.

I can only speak really for where we sit, but when we started coming there were only the barrels on the return alley. Now there is a fence that goes out from the bleachers. I have young children that I bring with me, and we sit there at the fence every time. However, even with the fence being there, I don't let them run around like banshees because accidents can happen anytime and anywhere, even with precautions in place. I've taught them from the first time that even though it's fun going out to the hill, that it's dangerous and they can get hurt, especially if they're not paying attention.

I agree with you guys...I was pitted on the back side last weekend, and the guy in the little coupe carried his car to the far end and turned around and just hammered on it. He almost hit 2 small kids...I almost had a heart attack. Seriously, they need to put speed breakers on that back stretch in the pit area to put a stop to this before someone does get hit.

The far end of the pits has way to many people making practice runs. I and several other people park down their and have had cars getting out of shape(spinning) and hopefully no one ever gets out of control and hits someone or something. As far as the return road, it is set up pretty decent. There is a speed limit that could be enforced a little better but people also need to understand this is a race track and the cars have the right of way on the return road. No one should be walking or driving across when a car is returning from a run. I for one have a pretty small radiator so I like to get back to where I am parked as soon as I can. I do slow down in front of the bleachers and until I round the corner. It is hard to see to my right over my hood scoop, I have had people walk in front of me from the right and never saw them until I was right up on them. For the most part, I think the crew do a pretty good job, but I agree that alot of people need to try and be a little safer out there. I for one have not noticed there being an accident out there every month, I think we have a pretty good track record considering the sport we are in. Hope you keep coming.

i will agree with yall in the pits we should cut out practice runs in the pits it is dangerous any thing can go wrong at any time, i agree with chris theres to many people back there we have a track right there so lets keep it on the track as far as the return lane i think they got it set up pretty good im with chris on that one too spectator need to watch for cars and if u bring kids to the track they need to be watch at all times this is not the place to let kids run wild, and as far as accidents i think we have had mabe three or four this year and thats not bad butt would like to see less but agin thats part of racing iv been racing at prairie hill sence 2006 and kenny and his crew have brought that track a long was sence iv been racing alot of racers thats been racing there along time know what im talking about, kenny and his crew are always up for hearing new ideas they are willing to do what they can to make the track a safer place

I am not saying people shouldn't be able to drive through the pits warming up their stuff and even go to the end to check trans brake, see if it is shifting and stuff like that but the ones making what seems like a half pass with the tires smoking and the car going sideways need to stop. I for one can't afford to fix my car because someone hits it after getting loose back there. If it is on the track so be it but if it is in the pits we are going to have a problem. Most of us out there are friends and we all know we can drive but no matter how good you can drive, a car with alot of power and no traction ain't good. This is just my opinion.

I think Ken and the crew do a great job. But you cant be everywhere at once. The burnouts in the pits should stop before sone one gets hurt. One way to stop this is for the racers to police themselfs. Pass the word this has to stop. There is nothing wrong with warming up your car but have a 10 mph in the pits and no burnouts. I have seen things happen in the pits you would not belive.

What about tech? Does any anyone think the cars out there should be legal according to NHRA or IHRA rules. the last time I was there I seen a pick-up running high sevens with out a helmet!! Am I too serious of a racer or just complaining?? Mainly just don't want to see any one get hurt in thier cars either.

THE RULES ARE NOT THE SAME AS NHRA OR IHRA BECAUSE THIS IS A OUTLAW TRACK. I HAVE NOT SEEN ANYONE RUN WITHOUT A HELMET BUT I HAVE SEEN KEN AND KENNY STOP SOMEONE FROM RUNNING BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE A HELMET. I AGREE WITH CHRIS AND JIMMY WE FOR ONE PARK WAY IN THE BACK FORTY BECAUSE THERE IS JUST MORE ROOM AND THE WARM UPS BACK THERE DO GET A BIT TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT. MY HUSBAND ALSO SAYS THAT IF OUR VEHICLE GETS HITS ON THE TRACK THAT IS ONE THING BUT ACTING STUPID AND HITTING HIS CAR IS ANOTHER. THERE ARE WAY TO MANY KIDS RUNNING AROUND THERE TO BE ACTING STUPID. A KID CAN RUN OFF IN A HEARTBEAT BEFORE YOU KNOW IT (EVERYBODY THAT IS A PARENT KNOWS THAT) AS FAR AS THE WRECKS GO PLEASE HAVE YOU BEEN TO HMP THEY HAVE AT LEAST ONE OR TWO A NIGHT AND THEY ARE NHRA. I FOR ONE THINK A LITTLE TECH WOULD BE GOOD. I ALSO THINK KEN, KENNY, AND EVERYONE ELSE DO A GREAT JOB AND TRY TO MAKE IT AS SAFE AS THEY CAN (THEY HAVE KIDS OUT THERE ALSO)

where is HMP? You are right ken does do a great job. Maybe I should just stick to NHRA rules and tracks. And not take my car to the hill. Maybe outlaw racing is just to dangerious for me. Sorry, Didn't mean to be a bother, signed:: life long racer

NO NO NOT SAYING WHAT I SAID TO OFFEND ANYONE. HMP IS IN HOUSTON. WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE ANYONE RACE AT THE HILL. JUST SAYING ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN WHETHER THEY ARE AT THE HILL OR AT A IHRA OR NHRA TRACK DON'T THINK IT MATTERS IF IT IS OUTLAW, NHRA OR IHRA. SORRY IF I OFFENDED YOU IN ANY WAY DID NOT MEAN TO.

AND BELIEVE ME YOU ARE NO BOTHER. WE ALL HAVE A OPINION AND SHOULD GIVE IT (MAY HELP IN SOME WAY) AS I HEAR THE TRACK IS SLICK RIGHT KNOW. I KNOW WHEN WE RACE WE ARE SKATING ALL OVER THE PLACE. I HEAR THEY ARE LAYING NEW RUBBER AND THAT WOULD BE WONDERFUL.

WHEREVER YOU ARE HAPPY RACING AT BUT ARE MORE THAN WELCOME AT THE HILL. WE HAVE OUR NHRA DRIVERS LICENSE AND CAN RUN AT OTHER TRACKS AND ARE SURE CLOSER TO OTHER TRACKS BUT LOVE PRAIRIE HILL AND THE PEOPLE OUT THERE. WE DRIVE ABOUT 189 MILES ROUND TRIP TO RACE THERE BUT THE PEOPLE AND FRIENDS ARE WORTH IT.

To (Spector for now) If you waiting to run at the Plex good luck. Im looking at the Schedule there are only three bracket races left this year. Back to Safty at the hill You should ware a helment for your on safty when your racing. Most of the cars I see runing at the Hill will pass teck. If you have run at the plex in the last 22 years I proubly teck you in. I can go to any track around when we are not racing ,I go to the Hill because I like the people that run it and I know most of the racers there and Its the first track I ever saw a drag race in 1962

your right about the three left at the plex. they are only running once a month now. Iguess they are lacking a little money income due to this damn economy and that dude in the oval office. I'm sure some will pass tech but I wouldn't say most. and your right about the people that run it , Ken seems to be a really good person.

[> [> Re: track safety -- ChrisRagsdale, 16:25:44 07/26/10 Mon [1]

I have to agree with spectator on this. I think everyone should wear a helment, especially the faster cars. As far as having to pass all NHRA or IHRA rules, I can't agree, hell I wouldn't be able to run lol. My car has all the safety equipment that would be required but my certification is out and I don't have a license. It probablly would be better if they made sure everyone had seatbelts, helments, and stuff like that. I have seen them stop people from running so they do watch somewhat. I don't care to run my car at the Big name tracks so why would I want to keep investing money into getting recertified and relicensed to run on outlaw tracks? I know stuff don't last forever and I will have to change it but I am pretty sure my flywheel and trany gaurds are not rotting away after 2 years. I guess what I am saying is I agree with "spectator for now" that a little tech wouldn't hurt but don't agree with the following of the NHRA book.

Your right about your car. If I knew my stuff was legal and all I needed was new sticker and license, I wouldnt get them either if I was happy with my car at the hill. It is just a big money expense and your right again, some stuff doesn't need to be replaced just after two years.
