I can tolerate quite a bit of catty and mean spirited gossip, but when my integrity is challenged, I will defend myself.
I raised money for MENC because this happens to be a NON-PROFIT cause that I support. PERIOD. I never participated in this to "buy" a finalist spot. That is simply ridiculous. Not one dime came from me personally. Not one dime came from my company. And not one dime came from my business partner.
There really is a "job" after you get your crown...and that is to support the sponsors. You can run your mouth all day and all night... but your actions are the only thing to define your character. If you do nothing... then your words are meaningless.
It has always been a part of me to show ACTION behind my words. If I wanted to compete at the pageant and say that I cared about the music education of the children in our country and I intended to make a difference... then my actions should back that up. Lots of people say "I want to do good"... but never do anything. How completely ridiculous it is (and ONLY in pageants would this happen) that someone would raised $6000 for a non-profit chartible organization,to support YOUR KIDS music education in school, would be looked upon negativly.
I will openly admit that I did NOT enter this pageant to be a model or even want to be seen as a model. I entered because I want to make a significant difference in our country and around the world. My ability to fund raise should ABSOLUTLY be a factor in the end result. Its part of the JOB. Its a direct indication that I will "do something" with the title... not just show up and take pictures. I supported the Mrs. America sponsor because I believe in their cause and its a huge portion of my personal life and my company.
Now here are the REAL FACTS about this contest:
1. The judges were told they could NOT vote for me, because I would be put in the 1st finalist position regardless. I did NOT know about this. I would have NEVER consented to such a thing. I was NOT given an opportunity to be selected by the judges. That was TAKEN from me without my consent.
2. Had I known #1 was the case, I would not have donated any money to MENC and probably would have questioned my entrance into the pageant at all.
3. Nobody knows if I would have been selected by the judges for top 10 or not. Again, that was taken from me before they had a chance to vote me. And again, without my knowledge or consent.
3. If anyone was "damaged" by this, it was me. I was humiliated on a stage in front of hundreds of people, because I tried to do the right thing and help a cause that affects children. My credibility to the judges was destroyed, when they were instructed that "they cannot select/vote for me." Of course I would not go past top 11. I never was given the chance.
Regardless, I 100% deserved to be in the top 10. Why? Because when all is said and done... how you walk, how you strut in a swimsuit, will do absolutly nothing to improve your community or our country. But how hard you work to raise money and bring awarness to causes that can truely make a difference in this world DOES.
I gave a small demonstration of the impact I can have in helping make our schools a better place. It was far more than words in an interview... it was a REAL show of action. And that in itself deserves to be HONORED...not looked down upon.
Its truely shameful that a group of adult women would treat STRANGERS in the manner in which I read on these forums. You should be ashamed of yourself.

- Good for you Mrs California. Sounds like you got hosed by the pageant! I am sure it was not cracked up to be what was promised either, am I right? -- No name, 17:12:53 09/09/09 Wed
- So, so sorry to read this and what you've had to endure just to be a representative of married women in America. Keep your head up and be proud of your accomplishment regardless of what negative people have to say. And, if you want to continue making a difference as a titleholder, enter another pageant which is held in high esteem - if you can find one. -- a fan from new jersey!, 17:22:10 09/09/09 Wed
- Wow, you articulated all of this so beautifully. R E S P E C T and honor to you! -- No name, 17:36:27 09/09/09 Wed
- From what I heard from a friend who was a contestant, everyone got the information that the 11th semifinalist spot would go to the top fundraiser for MENC. So any of the ladies could have chosen to put in the time and effort to raising money for this worthy cause. I assumed that if the best fundraiser had already been voted by the judges into the top 10, that the next highest scorer would fill the 11th spot. I am shocked that the judges were told that they couldn't vote you into the finals. (NT) -- Sorry that you felt humiliated -- I think that 99.9% of people admired your accomplishments., 17:46:38 09/09/09 Wed
- You're awesome Mrs. Cali! Absolutely awesome. You represent what this pageant SHOULD be about, and it's clear that many women are jealous that they do not embody the same character as you. You truly are a beautiful person, inside and out. I am sorry to hear about this experience, and I am rethinking my own participation. It's sad this outlet year after year humiliates good women. You're an amazing representative and I wish you nothing but the best. Oh, and you should run (not walk) to Mrs. International. -- Becky Leeman, 18:17:01 09/09/09 Wed
- Re: Mrs. California - Bought her spot?... WOW... nothing surprises me about this system... -- No name, 18:40:31 09/09/09 Wed
- They told you that the judges were told they couldn't vote for you? That's crazy. In any case I'm so sorry that you felt humiliated on stage, they could have given you a special award instead of telling everyone that you were only in the top 11 because of your donation. -- many ways that could have been handled differently, such a shame., 19:09:54 09/09/09 Wed
- Giselle .... You don't have to defend yourself to anyone. The "REAL" women on the voys know how these forums work. There's always a lot of "BLAH, BLAH, BLAH" after national pageants. The people that are privileged enough to really know you can see through all the s*#! and appreciate you for what you have done, are doing and will continue to do for our community. Just keep on being "YOU". That's the Giselle we all love no matter what!!! By the way .... You looked beautiful in SS and EG!!!! -- CA fan ..... Lisa Gandara (The other Mrs CA), 19:25:35 09/09/09 Wed
- Way to go! You have many fans and you were treated SHAMEFULLY! I applaud you and I'm sorry this happened. -- another fan, 19:38:10 09/09/09 Wed
- Well said Mrs. CA. No need to defend yourself against silly so called adult women who bash you, they are just jealous! I & many others in the system never liked this whole idea of winning the 11th spot for the exact reasons you stated! Congrats you are marvelous! -- No name, 08:07:16 09/10/09 Thu
- Corrections: The directors were advised of the decision for the 11th spot, all delegates would compete and be scored equally. If a delegate placed in top 10 was the MENC winner, the next highest score would be replacing thate position. (NT) -- I hope this helps..., 08:21:57 09/10/09 Thu

- Once the top 11 were announced, were they not given ballots again and able to pick the top 5 or whatever from those 11? -- If they liked you, could they have moved you forward?, 19:59:01 09/10/09 Thu
- Well after reading this thread, I feel sorry for the next Mrs California who now will be remembered as the state that bought a spot. Hope people can get passed this and the New Mrs. California shines and brings credit to her state. I also agree with the poster of "stop responding to the posts" It is not helping your situation. -- Best of luck to CA, 22:10:55 09/10/09 Thu

- Is it possible that this is all just a misunderstanding? As someone who has been at several national pageants as a competitior and have MC'd and judged many, many pageants here is how I would have interpreted your situation. You obviously were in the judges minds as a top 10 candidate from all the scores that had been collected up to that point. With the director and the producers knowing this and knowing they wanted to add the extra drama of having 11 final contenders on stage they were (as I interpret this) informed to pick out one other lucky lady to have the opportunity to stand on stage as a finalist. I see this as though you were a dead ringer for top ten. But because of your gracious and generous fundraising you helped out a non profit foundation AND gave another contestant the excitement of being a finalist. -- *, 16:31:29 09/11/09 Fri

- There will always be naysayers, haters, and bashers....don't take it personally take it as FLATTERY. You're doing something right (which they can't get right). -- Cookie Dough, 19:19:49 09/11/09 Fri

- So, after watching this, it seems as if Mrs. California has a very bad case of sour grapes. I can't understand how on earth she would be so upset. She made the Top 11 at a national pageant. Gosh. -- Call a whambulance..., 14:32:34 09/24/09 Thu
