Subject: I think providing scholarships to those who can't afford to compete is kind of cool. But what happens if one of those scholarship receivers wins? Doing Mrs America costs thousands even with a prize package. if a lady can't afford $500 to compete, how is she going to afford to go to mrs. a?

This is what I personally spent and does not include "perks" from my sponsors. The event is fun and definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity, but it is extremely costly. I am not the only contestant that spent this kind of money either.

[> [> [> Subject: That is exactly what I was talking about. I think alot of states provide competition wardrobe and I guess a girl could always borrow clothes for rehearsals, but what about your family's plane tickets and hotel room and show tickets? What about the required ad page? I think it is a good idea but if someone is so broke that they can't pay an entry fee, maybe they need to sit it out a year. The economy is tight for sure and I know alot of people are tightening their belts and cutting out all unnecessary expenses, but I wonder if some of these ladies who are entering for free realize how much it will cost them if they were to win.

[> [> [> [> Subject: it is just as expensive at Mrs US or Mrs International. A good budget with the ad for nationals is around $3000-$4000. Some who enter preplan and save airmiles or get them donated, timeshares are donated or their family stays at a different hotel and not all the kids may come to both competitions. So there are ways to do it.

[> [> [> Subject: Mrs. Oklahoma has incredible sponsors!! When I won in 2008, my only big expense at nationals was professional make-up -- and that was a personal choice. The pageant has sponsors that provide a competition gown, rehearsal clothing, headshots, personal training, hair cut and color and dozens more! Our nationals ad fee was $1000 and I was able to get that donated as well. Tracy does an amazing job at supporting her titleholders and ensuring that they have everything they need to be successful at nationals!

[> [> Subject: I think the scholarship idea is great, I don't think it is to be used for someone who is not able to financially pay for their own entry but for someone that a previous title holder believes will make a great title holder (it shouldn't be about the money) why would I as a person who has less money think that someone who is financially well off should NOT be able to receive a scholarship, I don't begrudge someone a scholarship just because they have a better income than me. I think the scholarship is intended to bring in contestants that are of good quality. And after all quality contestants are the ones I''d like to win against, scholarship or no scholarship. And as far as the expenses of nationals there are always ways to develop sponsors to pay for that, I know Tracy is wonderful at that!!! her previous title holder even agreed.
