| [> Subject: Hello. I'm a future Mrs. contestant and I went to the OK/KS pageant to see what it's all about. I was surprised by KS choice, but I was also a bit surprised by OK choice as well. That scares me a bit. My friends and family all picked the same person to win in KS and then she didn't. We were a bit divided on OK. However, I guess what I don't get is that when someone is a stand out and they don't win, how is that possible? That's what concerns me. And from the posts on this board a lot of other people felt the same way. I guess I don't get how a contestant seems to be everyone's pick but they don't win? | |

| [> [> Subject: Dear What to Make of this... while a number of people may have been divided keep in mind that the outcome came down to the judges. Perhaps they were divided... it could have been that they agreed with the half that thought the winner should have won. As a future Mrs. contestant, look at the experience. If you liked what the Director provided to the contestants as a whole... you need to jump on board. | |

| [> [> [> Subject: Thanks for the response. Here's the thing that I don't understand about pageantry in general and that makes me a bit nervous. It's a beauty pageant right? Well then we expect the one who is beautiful to win. I don't know how to make this sound right so it's probably going to come out all wrong and I mean no disrespect, but the KS winner wasn't the most beautiful. I know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But when I watch pageants on TV you can generally tell who will win, and at least from what we observed in KS that didn't happen. Sooooo in trying to prepare myself I guess I feel if I've done everything right then it might not be enough. Yes the pageant was amazing and I do like the production so I am excited about that. | |

| [> [> [> [> Subject: There are always head-scratchers, but in Mrs. America, what I have found, is that the most beautiful contestant does not win. At least not on the national level. That's not to mean the national winners weren't beautiful, but some of the most gorgeous contestants each year are up there clapping because the judges don't connect with them, or they're not approachable. They want a well-rounded, fit, pretty woman. But sometimes the most gorgeous women in the bunch doesn't have "it." Still there are always ones that we'll never understand, but we have to get over it and support them. | |

| [> [> Subject: I know exactly what you are talking about in terms of several pageants I have seen. KS and OK are not the ones I have seen, but I have noticed what you are talking about. After talking with a few of the gals who are the 1st runner-ups and such, it has become clear that sometimes the top contestant can lose it in the final ranking and the next in line suddenly gets the title. Time and again it has been a case where 3 judges rank one person #1 and the other gal may get a couple of the #1 votes from the other judges. So you would assume the contestant with the (3) #1 votes would win. Well, they can be tanked by even just one judge. Give her a #4 spot and you can find the 2nd place person will rise to the top. And so it feels a bit of a gamble. | |
