I've seen her in person and that's LOTS of photoshop! It will hurt her when she walks in and doesn't look like they expect. She's not a pleseant lady either.

The first runner up will take the crown this year, why she hasn't yet is a mystery! The new contestants this year were inexperienced and it showed that's why they did not place. Again it is more than looks it's the interview, poise, grace and stage presence. It's always easy to blame the judging if that makes you feel better!

Eventually refers to the fact that they have the same few people judge every year and they know well in advance who they each like. If you haven't competed for years and done some serious kissing up you have no chance of winning in WA. The desperately need a new director!

[ Post a Reply to This Message ]

[> Subject: This was my first year competing for Mrs. Washington. Let me say this...the women who have competed in previous years make the top five because they DESERVE it. The old saying "Practice makes perfect" rings true in this pageant! The judges didn't select returners because of favoritism. They selected previous contestants because they were excellent candidates. The more you compete, the more you learn and the stronger you become as a competitor. If a "newbie" had done as well as the returners, the judges would have seen that and rewarded her with a spot in the top 5, and maybe even the crown. I learned a lot this year and hope to come back as a stronger contestant next year. Congratulations to Carla, she is deserving, humble, kind and beautiful! Can't wait to see her rock Mrs. America in September!

The truth is that the judges come from the same small pool of people every year. There are two that judge most all years and one of them judges EVERY year. They pick their favorites and move through them. Then the director makes every excuse possible as to why it's fair and the national office turns a blind eye. The only way there will be an upset is if the director gets unbiased judges and she made it clear in a letter to the contestants that she will not do that. There probably would have been an upset because she promised all year to stop having the same people judge and said she had replaced the head judge but it turned out to be a lie.
The woman who won is very sweet but did not earn the title, it was given to her by people who have known her for years and like her. It's unethical and unfortunate but that's the truth.

[> Subject: WA is a great example of unfair judging. The judges know everyone who's competed before. This is why people think pageants are all rigged. It's because of unscrupulous directors like this one that would rather keep it a good old girls club then be honest and let the chips fall where they may. I always heard the Marmels were honest people but if they don't care that their state directors openly have past queens and repeat judges then I guess I was heard wrong.

Sour grapes. Have you ever considered that this years winner just had the "entire package" and the rest of us still have areas to work on and it just wasn't ment to be. It's really easy to declare "unfair" judging and to me it sounds like no matter what until you won, this would be your excuse. If you'd won this year, would you still be saying it was "unfair judging" for the rest of us girls??? Just my two cents, please let the winner enjoy her time as Mrs. Washington and keep your negative comments to yourself. Not all of us share in your opinion of the winner, the pageant or the director.

[> [> [> Subject: You CANNOT be serious with this post. Her dress was unattractive, her question was obviously given to her before the pageant because her answer was soooo canned, and her body is no way ready for Mrs America. With so little time before the pageant she was not the "entire package" just a favorite of the director (who by the way was helping her). Just not okay with the "different judges different year" here because oviously you have to "know the judges" to win.

I am TOTALLY SERIOUS about my post! So please be polite! Carla earned her win and if others think they're better than she then they need to get a gripe on things. There were many deserving women this year, things lined up for Carla. And her dress was just fine, it had the elements it needed, fit her perfectly and she walked with grace and poise. Her ethics and personality are something that we are proud to have as a Mrs. Washington! Not everyone is harboring the same resentment issues or believes that this pageant is rigged. The director was/is willing to help EVERYONE that reaches out to her. So get over it, the pageant is over, Carla has won and I plan to fully support her!

Thank you. I believe part of the issue is that "observers" only see what is presented on stage that night. She may not have appeared as a front runner to the audience, but from backstage and being with her all year I can tell you see was. You should never under estimate someone based on appearance.
