Just curious. I want a new gown for my state pageant and everything I like is 3K.
I know... I have checked pageant resale and Ebay. Just getting sick of seeing the same Toby Bowls and Jovani gowns over and over again. So, are you actually paying these prices?

I would say my state is quite competitive.

[> Subject: I'm in a big state, I've never paid over $1000 but I buy all resale gowns, and I've always worn one of the big three designers, my best buy was a $250 top of the line Sherri hill gown that I had restyled for $150... would have been less but it was really big on me and had to have a lot of work done. my gown scores have always been pretty high and very consistent. but several of the ladies I've compete with have bought the $3000 gowns, some do well some dont... but I doubt the gown made the difference either way, as long as the gown is right for you! I've had judges "hate" my gown and "love" my gown in the same pageant... you just never know, wear what you feel beautiful in!

[> Subject: I highly suggest looking at Frankie Couture. I had seen his name posted a few times on various boards so I decided to contact him and see how much a custom gown cost. I was blown away by how affordable it was and the high quality of the gown. Each to their own opinion, but I think contacting Frankie Simmons of Frankie Couture would be work looking into.

[> Subject: You can look into renting a gown. You have to find one that fits you already with minimal alterations, but you can wear an expensive gown for a much lower price tag.

I have judged many pageants in the past, from Teen to Mrs. And the judges get the same instructions. Do not judge the gown, judge the girl wearing the gown.

We all have seen it in the past, a girl with the ugliest or most simple gown wins. Judges never know who designed your gown or how much it cost. I coached a teen who won with a sinple re-sale black dress which cost $150.

99% of the time , if you win your state, you'll never wear the same gown at nationals.

My advice is. Get a gown you like and you feel pretty in and practice your walk. When it comes down to it, you could be wearing a gown with 1,00 crystals and it may glitter on stage as if it was on fire, but if you don't have the confidence or you allow the gown to wear you instead of the other way around, you'll never win. Don't allow the gown to ooutshine you. Judges want to see you sparkle, not the dress.
