What this Union truly needs is to rethink it's structure.
First of all the Executive Board should be more of a steering commitee.
We need to hire professional people to run the day to day and represent us on negotiations.
1) An Executive Director: Hired by the E-Board and pay is based on performance.
2) A Legislative Rep: Again hired by E-Board and pay is based on performance. ALot of Ex Senators out there who know the ins and outs and have the connections we need.
3) A Business Agent: Hired by E-Board and paid on performance.
The members of the E-Board would only work 2 days a week in the union office the rest of the time they would be back in the institutions. Have all members in one day a week at union office to meet together and then one other day so that we have an Officer there at all times overseeing the process.
This would allow us to put forth a professional appearance and the hired professionals would be able to speak more frankly about situations as they would not have to worry about petty retaliations by the DOC when their term was up, and the harder they worked for us the better their pay.
