Great work. I am a sixth cousin, four times removed of James Butler Hickok. I branch from William Hickock of Farmington at his son Samuel - My 5th great-grandfather Asher Hickcox (1756-1832)served in the Revolutionary War in the Connecticut line, and moved to Lanesboro, just north of Pittsfield, MA after the war. He and Aaron, great grandfather of Wild Bill, only lived a few miles a part during this period. My branch of the family spelled the name several different ways (Hickcox, Hecox, Hickok) but settled on Hickcox by the early 1800s. A good, but not infallible resource for early Hickok genealogy is Charles Nelson Hickok's 1938 genealogy of the family, published by The Tuttle Publishing Company of Rutland, VT. He seems to be the original source of the Oliver Otis Hickok name, versus the more accurate Oliver C. Hickok.
