I remember how some last year wanted Dixon out and Rombach in. I realize the tools Dixon possesses and I definitely would like to see what he can do this year, a year older and hopefully wiser. The doctor has released him and he is not going to be 100% ever this year so give him some time now but keep in mind a few things: These last two games should not be on Kevin. Should he have even played against NS after that very serious concussion against Bucknell. Yes, he made some mistakes on Sat but he also made some beautiful throws. His percentage was again around 60% which is exceptional. He orchestrated some nice drives but this team has stalled in the red zone even when Dixon was in. We have a real red zone problem which the coaching staff needs to address. It was not Kevins fault that Dave Williams dropped a sure touchdown pass. He threw that ball 50-60 yards in the air and hit Williams in stride. Also, the two of them hooked up on a pass that David with his incredible athleticism almost turned into a touchdown but which resulted in a fumble and a turnover. Had he scored on those two plays and the Dukes won, we wouldn't be having this discussion. And he has not been given great protection which always ends up in turnovers. The pick six? Come on'--yes he overthrew the ball but---to quote Ken Wisnehut when James Harrison took it back for a score in the Super Bowl---something to the effect--"someone has to bring him down". The way our defense is playing if that kid was brought down when he should have been or when he was first hit, no touchdown, maybe a field goal. Every guy on the offense missed him. Those three plays could have made a huge difference in the outcome. Yes--I too would like to see Dixon (who, by the way, will have his kinks to work out and a rythm to try to establish) but Kevin Rombach is a pretty good I-AA QB. I wish he were little taller and had a little better feet when he gets in trouble but he throws a very catchable ball and has a fifth year senior brings something intangible to the table. Hell , he came back after last year--that should tell you something. No --I am not a family member or friend and quite frankly this Board has only been mildly critical of him but I just thought some perspective needs to be injected into the conversation and that is not say that he played great because he didn't. Let's all look at it objectively. On another note, cudos to the offensive line--isn't it great to have a running game? They are clicking and working together very well---Kuhns Kitna, Downey, Lehue (sp?) and Gill (and others)--now work on your pass protection. I also believe we should try to get the ball to our tight ends to mix it up a little bit--give the QB some shorter options. Our tight ends can catch and are athletic--not just blockers. And the defensive line? Wow to them and the linebackers--I never would have expected this after last year and with the change in coordinators. We might have the best group of starting LB's in the conference led by our All American candidate. Let's hope they can bring it all together and learn how to close the deal. They certainly have that potential. C'mon coaches--bring it out in them!!
