I can't take credit for the conversation with GA- That was Always a Duke. I do gree that there should be 11 games per year, particularly if we can add one like Delaware or RI.

I haven't heard anything about recruiting other than the two mentioned already. We may have assistant coaches, but they are part time and not much on the recruiting trail as RS.

Always a Duke

Sometime during the past football season the AD told me that the 2009 schedule would include the same 10 teams as those on the 2008 schedule plus 1 FCS team, which we now know is Nicholls State. The contract with Dayton was for 2 years, 2008 (home) & 2009 (away), and is not going to be renewed. He said he would likely be looking for another team from a higher ranked conference than the NEC to play in place of Dayton in 2010. It was my understanding that he wanted the Dukes to have an 11 game schedule in 2010 & beyond. If you subtract Dayton and add Delaware, that still leaves the Dukes 1 game short of 11. So I believe there is at least one more new opponent to appear on the 2010 schedule.

He said he liked the model that Albany had used in its scheduling of non-conference opponents. You may recall that they had 4 games against Colonial Athletic Association teams last season (won 1 and lost 3).

I suspect that we were able to schedule Delaware in 2010 because I'm guessing that Delaware is deleting West Chester (Div II) from its schedule in 2010. (Delaware has played West Chester early in the season as its patsy [no disrespect intended] for years.) Since playing and beating a Div II or Div III team will earn a FCS team no additional stature in the NCAA system for selecting at-large teams for the FCS playoffs, Delaware may have been looking for a FCS team to take the place of its long-time Div II foe. The Dukes needed a tougher opponent and the Blue Hens needed a FCS team from a weaker conference. Both teams can benefit under the at-large selection process in playing each other.
