Plans are in the pipeline to have a bus hired to bring the Lehigh Valley Dukes back to Pittsburgh for each home game. However, we are looking for an area to tailgate now that the patio behind Mellon Hall has been taken away. The consensus seems to be the parking garage 8th floor but not sure if the bus will fit !! Anyone have any thoughts ??

It will be great to have the Lehigh Valley Dukes back in the fold! I wish I could help you with parking, but, no matter where you park...You bring a huge amount of excitment to Rooney Field!...See you soon!..

It's great that the Lehigh Valley fans will be back in full force. More fans will hopefully motivate the team for improved play and help create a more exciting atmosphere overall. Note that during the last season the entire area under the Mellon Hall overhang along Bluff Street was not used for the official "$15 per person tail gate area." Less than half of that area was partitioned off. While I enjoyed that experience, I think moving the permitted "real" tail gate area to Bluff Street has merit. I have found AD Greg Amodio to be very approachable. Has anyone from your group written or phoned Greg to discuss your ideas on accommodating your bus and your tailgating suggestions?

Marquis is right on with the idea of using Bluff Street as a Tailgate Area. Great place, great view, great potential. Much better than the top floor of the parking garage. Tailgating on Bluff Street, the Straub Picnic Area and some student booths and activities along the walk would be great!

A note to Lehigh Valley Duke regarding parking that charter bus full of rowdy Duquesne fans: You can get some direction on bus parking on Duquesne's campus from Jarrett Durham, Associate AD. His direct line is 412.396.6068.
Some other info I recently picked up from Bob Derda, Associate AD/External Relations:
1. The football season ticket invoice included a form for pre-paying for the Straub tailgate festivities. Even though the pre-pay arrangement is preferable for DU's planning purposes, Bob said that you can still buy your $15 tailgate ticket on the day of the game.
2. Fencing will be installed along Academic Walk for each game to ensure that only ticketed fans get to sit in the seats on that side of Rooney Field. Last season it was observed by many posting on this forum that these seats were esaily accessible without a ticket.
3. Consideration is being given to the suggestion of broadcasting the WNMY's pre- and post game shows on Rooney Field's PA system.
