In reply to: Coffee 's message, "Duquesne and a Sugar Bowl Invitation" on Saturday, August 16, 12:59:18pm

That's actually an erroneous statement from Dr. D. Father Gallagher refused the invitation to the 1959 Sugar Bowl basketball tournament, not the football game. As you probably know, Duquesne discontinued its football program after the 1950 season and that last team wasn't good enough for any bowl invitations.

The second best Dukes team ever did turn down invitations to play in the Cotton and Sun Bowls in1939. See ranking from the blog.
