In reply to: Coffee 's message, "Dukes Pummel St. Francis 41-14 - Bits from the Blog" on Sunday, September 25, 10:48:20am

I made the trip up to Loretto last night. What a beautiful night for football. I was told that it was the largest crowd at DeGol Field and by the way...what a nice field it is. It makes me envious.

Isaac Spragg told me that there was alot of taunting before the game and that the Frankies were talking about another beat-down like 2009. Well....they got one!

The defense was outstanding. Our line had penetration all night long. Our linebackers were like wild dogs in their pursuit of Kyle Harbridge and knocked their QB, John Kelly from the game. Dave Opfar was really into it as he coached the kids up from start to finish. Mike Passodelis was a mountain up front and Oliver, Latimer and Oparanozie seemed to be all over the field. With the addition of Dorian Bell, this group will be very, VERY tough.

Sean Patterson is becoming a very fine QB. In the past, I thought Sean was too quick to pull the ball down and take off with it. This year, he is stepping up in the pocket, buying time and extending plays. His passes are crisp and precise, especially his deep balls to Connor Dixon.

And let me say this about Dixon....I think he is the X-factor on this team. Opposing teams MUST account for him. He is too big and too fast to go man. (the frankies found that out early) If you double him, Larry McCoy will run wild and Spragg, Layhue et al will pick you apart. (the frankies found that out as well)

It was nice to see Charlie connect on a couple of lengthy field goals. His first few kickoffs were short but they got much better as the game wore on.

In the end, it was an impressive win to open the NEC slate.

Nice Summary Tom. This trip was Western PA's best kept sports secret. I can't imagine a better drive and game. Was there a tailgate area?

Yes there was Coffee. A few nice trailers and plenty of Duke's fans. I have to say that the St. Francis fans are very gracious hosts and had a large student section....something for our kids to emulate.
