What a night Friday night was. I noticed as my sister was expecting a session over my moms knees the same things discussed here.
All electronic noise devices were off, windows cracked and fans on so the house could breath. It was still a little light out and lots of activity outside. I sympathized with my sister this time. I didn't think her behavior merited a very sore bottom, but I wasn't about to argue with my mom.
As I looked at my poor baby sister curled at the edge of the couch, looking contrite, nervous and pouting I heard children playing and laughing outside, dogs barking, cars going about and the smell of charcoal and lighter fluid, burgers on the grill.
I could still hear those faint sounds, but they were practically drowned out by a blistering paddling and cries in the next room. I found it a strange contrast with the sounds of children laughing and wondered if any of them might meet the same fate later.
