I think there is research to suggest that there is a predisposition to certain traits. But how those traits develop and what they latch on to is a lot to do with the formative years.

For instance those of certain genetic disposition can be drawn to crime or business - which way they go often depends on upbringing.

Homosexuality is also genetic but it is apparently a question of degree here. Some will be gay no matter what while others are on a border and will be lead by experience.

As to spanking - it is I believe a primeval force and everyone is susceptible - but as once with homosexuality society mitigates against it.

Whether or not it there is an actual gene or set of genes promoting this has not yet been subjected to research.
