 Obviously I am not a child psychologist, Confused. Personally I don't think that the need to challenge your mom, risking a spanking, has much to do with the girl's intelligence and talents. "Headstrong" might well be a factor though. Would you think that getting spanked makes a girl stornger in the end? More successful in life? More attentive to the needs and interests of others?
I think there has been a thread on birth order on here, and its results were inconclusive. My guess would be that, on balance, the first child gets to fight the hardest against parents' authority and paves the way for younger siblings. But that is certainly not true in all families.
