I think your love and concern for little Summer is really touching and kind.
Some of us here definitely benefit or benefited from spanking(s). I am not sure Summer does. She obviously needs some form of strong guidance and I hate to be sexist but I wonder if she would respond better if it came from a male. Are there men somewhere in your extended family who might play a role in her life? I am not suggesting that the male force involve spanking; rather the opposite. Lashing out, as she did, is a bit scary even though she probably had justice on her side. Your (Gigi's) doubts about the details of Summer's account are important. Perhaps you can get a true, or more nearly true, picture of exactly what went down. From your picture of Summer, we all are rooting for her and wish her the best. The old saw about spanking for hitting being paradoxical has a grain of truth to it. I see a lot of myself in Summer and I hope she can encounter the right sort of positive forces. In my case those forces came from boys' clubs and peers more than from my home life. Reality in the form of the pressures of survival on camping trips and the need for safety around firearms taught me the importance of respect for others and the value of procedures and their associated rules. Maybe Summer can find a similar positive force: Sports teams and coaches? Girl Guides/Scouts? Religious youth groups? several possibilities occur. I don't think she needs more or harder spankings. [Warning: Minority (probably of 1) Opinion coming!] She may already have had a lifetime quota of spankings.
Now in the case of Miss Strawberry and the lifetime quota -- she is just getting started!
