I am against it, but she isn't very responsive to other forms of discipline because corporal punishment was pretty much the only form of discipline throughout her life. I have changed that, I only use it when my wife asks me to, and only when I feel like it's a reasonable request. What this means roughly is that it's a last resort, not a first resort.
That having been said, I can't really disagree that it's necessary in her case. She was non-compliant with every other form of discipline, but she no longer is because she knows that ultimately if she doesn't accept other forms of punishment that we will use corporal punishment.
I don't like it, but it's made a big difference and she honestly seems happier than she was before so I can't really see refusing to do it.
As far as how long; ideally I'd like to stop today, certainly when she's an adult it will stop, but I have no idea. And as far as how often I've done it, thinking back on the past year or so since I started I think the number is 14 times. The frequency has gone down a lot lately, and I expect far fewer in the next year and hopefully it will be the end.
