Subject: A question...

Why have there been more winners from "non-sash states" over the past decade or so? It seems like until fairly recently, someone from Nebraska or Nevada or Connecticut basically had a 0% chance of winning Miss USA. But lately, we've seen winners from all those states and Top 5 placements for a few others. This trend is even true at Miss America, with recent winners from North Dakota and Nebraska.

What has changed?

[> Subject: That's a good question. I Think that's just the way pendulum shifts, and the organizers know to crown Non-sash states as a way to generate more interest, People were getting angry when Texas won 5 in a row.

Not to take anything away from those 5 amazing Texan winners, but some of their runners-up were amazing as well Diane Martin, Diana Magana, Jill S. (OK USA 89), etc..

[> Subject: It is rather nice to see a variety of winning states, back in the 1990s in Teen USA seeing Oregon, New Hampshire, Iowa, Vermont win from 1990-1993 was rather cool. Sharing the wealth on victories/success (placements) is rather nice, sometimes I wish Universe spread the glory a bit more too, but I think participation at Universe is a win for many/some international contestants as well.
