The new Miss Universe Brazil is Julia Gama of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul state.
Julia, who was also Miss Brazil World in 2014 (she placed in the Top 11 at Miss World that year), is the 2nd Brazilian woman to hold the two main beauty titles in her country.

She looks like a Miss Thailand.

[> [> Subject: Seriously. Exactly my first thought at first glance, ooooh the new Miss Thailand! Then I saw the sash and that gown is a dead give-away. That dress design is decades old and has made repeated showings on the MU stage. I actually like the dress but come on. Retire that thing.

[> Subject: I saw a clip of 4 potential winners for Miss Brazil and she seemed like the best choice for the current format of Miss Universe. Brazil pays humongous franchise fees, but I feel like its language (Portuguese, as opposed to Spanish) makes crowning a Brazilian MU less lucrative for Miss Universe, even if it were for Telemundo purposes. I am generally glad at the overall improvement of their winners in the last decade. I think it is great as well that the official Miss Brazil does not hold a grudge against the Global Beauties team that organizes the pageant to Miss World that Julia had won before. We have a Yaritza Reyes type of a situation in reverse.
