Subject: Choose one Opening Number from each MUO pageant - USA, Universe, Teen - that you thought was cool, crazy and exciting all at the same time and maybe thought, that choreography is way too much for me to do. I chose MISS USA 1988 as my winner. How do you do kicks, quick steps and everything else while wearing a skintight mini skirt provided by the J.C. Penney Company! My MISS UNIVERSE winner would be from 1984. All the pomp and circumstance, along with a popular hit back from the day. Being pro-Mai, she never stopped moving during the entire opening. That hair just bounced! And for TEEN, as if their screams were not enough, the 1987 opening with "I Wonder Who's Hot Tonight", those girls just moved with so much energy and enthusiasm, all while wearing their state costumes. Kristi Lynn Addis in an antebellum dress and moving that way like that? Neat. What's yours?
[> Subject: For Teen, 1987 was also my favorite and probably my favorite pageant opening number of all time for the same reasons esp the enthusiastic hyperactive screaming teens mixed in with the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders and encore at the end. For USA, “right in the Middle” the 1992 version. Catchy tune and strong year for gorgeous delegates and Georgia and Texas in the middle. For Universe, tie between 1987 “Let’s Go”, awesome production that year all around and 1999’s Carnival, which was very festive and topped off with Cook Islands hip action at the end. Overall I thought 1987 had the best openings and shows production-wise
[> [> Subject: I love how Brandi Sherwood just walked to the front and center of the stage and started dancing as lead dancer. Funny how in some of those pageant back in the day the lead dancer ended up winning the pageant.
[> Subject: MU 1987: "Let's Go" as Cali-Dude already mentioned. I recall having had recently watched The Wizard of Oz a few months prior and thinking how cool it was that Venezuela walked across the stage as Glinda in the intros. lol I need help.
[> Subject: Not exactly an "opening" number, but one of my favorite numbers will forever be Miss America's 1990 Lady in Red. Beautiful song, beautiful gowns, beautiful staging, just absolutely perfect.
[> [> Subject: Yes!!! That was the one of the best numbers in pageant history. Loved the whole mannequin vibe and yes absolutely perfect. Miss America 1990 pageant is my favorite year in terms of production. The opening number “I Can Fly” was awesome too with the catchy tune and all the shoulder padded pantsuits
