Former Miss USA 2014, Nia Sanchez, mentioned she heard rumors that this year's Miss USA contestants were told what the interview questions/topics would be prior to the finals. I'd like to think that Nia is in the know since she is still close with MUO.

Thoughts?

[> Subject: Actually, I think this is a good idea. It gives the contestants a chance to form some coherent thoughts and reduces the chances of a complete YouTube meltdown. I just wish MUO/IMG were totally upfront and transparent about this. They could just announce during the telecast that contestants will be asked a question on one of several topics that they were given beforehand. It's only when there is an air of secrecy about it that it seems weird.

That's why they all sounded good. The questions and answers were discussed back stage prior to top 10 by all the contestants.

It wasn't even the same owner she won for. Was her allegiance part of the IMG purchase price? She doesn't owe them anything.

[> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: She said she "heard" which is different than flat out saying it happened. Gossip when it comes to what goes on in a pageant has been the name of the game forever. It's how the industry feeds on these girls' pursestrings. "We know what the judges and the organization is looking for... come prep with us!" At least Nia didn't charge for that. Nor did she gossip about a particular delegate which if she did would not make her different than 95% of pageant delegates or people out there.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: Well - you have all successfully moved the subject away from the real issue (whether or not it is legitimate if MUO feeds the questions to the finalists prior to the final competition) and changed it into a personal attack on Nia. Woohoo - aren't you all so brilliant.

The question is whether or not the advanced information is appropriate. Everything else is just cackling... My opinion - I don't think they should. These women should be able to think on their feet.

[> Subject: MUO gave ALL contestants a sheet with 1 fluff question off their own BIOS if they were to advance that would be asked first and ALL were given 10 topics of which possible questions would come from so they could be better prepared, it was actually done to make them all more confident and comfortable and was done fairly and professionally.

[> [> Subject: As I said in a comment above, I think this is a great idea. My only concern is that IMG/MUO should have been more transparent about it. It would have fended off the rumors and conjectures. At the pageant, they could have quickly announced exactly what you just said, and that would have been the end of it.

[> [> [> [> Subject: It's a a pretty big change in how things are done, so I just think it would have been good if they had announced it to the audience/public. They don't have to make a big deal out of it, but just a quick acknowledgment of the new procedure could have put to rest all these bad feelings. (And sorry for the trolls, Shanna.)

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: What difference does it make when it's done across the board? If anything it makes the contestants look bad because it comes across like they are so stupid that they aren't able to answer basic questions about themselves and current events without being given a heads up. It's unrealistic for people who have to do media interviews to not be tested as they would in a normal environment. And even though all the women before them did it, we need to coddle the ones today.
