Subject: I think Filipina-Americans would rather choose to compete in Miss Philippines as they have higher chances of winning there. I remember the winner when Miriam Quaimbao competed. I don't think she would even win a state pageant in the US but she got the MU Philippines title in Manila. Fortunately, Miriam got sent to Trinidad instead of her. Some say the dethroned winner would have coasted through the Q&A portion, which admittedly, was Miriam's waterloo. However, before she can even set foot to the Q&A, she needs to do well in the presentation show, which I believe she will not be able to do as excellently as Miriam did.

[> [> Subject: In 1999, I think Janelle Bautista (who was the Miss Philippines titleholder who had to resign because she is an American citizen) might have had a good chance of winning Miss USA that year, had she represented a non-sash state. Competition that year was relatively even, as there were no real front-runners and the unusual selection of Kim Presler.

[> [> [> Subject: 1999...still a transition year for Miss USA...1/51 of the contestants was black (NOT DC, but AZ's Cara Jackson who should have placed IMHO...), the 1999 candidates projected an older look, a handful looked good, VA, SC, CA (expect the double bun and makeup), FL...
