Subject: I'm not sorry that you are so offended by this contest. And I will say Mr. USB opened several doors for me in the pageant world. As a result I've judged several USA state pageants, and I've met so many incredible people in the pageant world that I would have not met had I not chosen to run for the title. I dont think any of us think its a "real" title like you imply. But it was definitely life changing. Not to mention I got a free trip to Las Vegas, recognized at a huge party for winning Mr. USB at the Welcome Party 2013, and now I'm part of a group of guys who I look up to immensely in the pageant world. We've all read your comments on why you dont like Mr. USB, but truthfully, all you have to do is scroll by. The next Mr. USB will be fantastic, considering the contestants. So despite your rhetoric, Mr. USB is alive and well, and here to stay. :)

In reply to: PageantLover 's message, "Here’s my issue with Mr. USB: it started off as a campy fun niche to help time pass during off pageant season. The guys were IN on the joke and silliness of it all. Until they weren’t. And now you hear former winners (in a creepy way) discuss their titles like it’s REAL titles that the ladies win. From advocacy to saying they represent the community and even once heard one of them talking about “making an appearance” Lord, the moment they started to take this too seriously was where I needed to tap out because to be part of delusion is frightening. Get a grip, gentlemen. This isn’t a real title and heck, as evident by the comments, many on USB don’t even find the contest compelling. Stop pretending like you won a noble peace prize. It’s a contest to see who has more family and friends to send an email with your name. That’s all. The whole “I got emotional during my crowning” for what? Telling all your relatives to send an email for a silly basement contest?" on 13:45:45 02/23/18 Fri

Mr. USB Nominee - wow. I was warned about what this might be like, but what the hell, I'm brave and have thick skin. So, here goes. I've been a 'observer' of the Voy boards off and on over the years. The off years were when I felt we did more damage and bitching than we did 'good' for the girls who pay attention to our comments (sometimes painfully hurtful comments), etc. but since I am a Mr. USB 2018 (Facebook USB, VoyBoard USB or whatever other 'name' we think it should be given), I wanted to thank those of you who care about it, for caring about it. And to those who don't think it has a 'place' - thanks for sharing that too. Opinions are what pageantry and well, life, is all about. I did want to say that I would have been happy to campaign more here, if I thought folks really did care about it. You see, I'm a successful businessman. I was the CEO of the company that brought a revival to the swimsuit competition at Miss USA last year. I'm the guy who negotiated the site deal for IMG/MUO for Miss Teen USA to be hosted in Phoenix (where I've lived and built a life for over 2 decades.) I happen to have won a 'dude' title back when I was in college and literally was out of money for school - had it not been for that Mr. North America competition - I may not have graduated college. Pageantry in that case actually DID change my life, and for the better. Like so many of you on this Board, I have very strong opinions and a deep and abiding affection for this hobby (for some), sport (for some), lifestyle (for others.) I've run pageants (as a state director who has had to put his money - a lot of it - where his mouth was.) I've coached. I've prepped. I've produced state pageants for television. I've sponsored national and international competitions. I've done a considerable amount more than just lob grenades on Boards like this from the comfort of my iPad under a fake name. And I'm proud of that. Mr. USB? Fun stuff. Not meant to be life-changing (though some claim for them it has been.) For me? It's fun. Nothing more. Nothing less. But I do take seriously that we all have something to say, and should be able to without the nastiness. Not saying the USB Group on FB has all the answers. Not saying we don't slip up and forget our manners and mutual respect there too - it happens. But there's a ton less vitriol and tone there then there is here. Maybe we need to reintroduce some civilized dialogue to THIS Board and that will restore people's faith, confidence and interest in what we all have to say? Just maybe? Meant with total respect. Honestly. - Thom
