In reply to: Qban 's message, "VOTING FOR MR.USB 2018 IS NOW OFFICIALLY OPEN !" on 12:14:10 03/01/18 Thu

Hi there. New to this Voy board. I've been an observer over the years, but haven't posted much as I wasn't sure about the protocol. So, if I make any rookie mistakes on this Board, please forgive me.

Thom Brodeur-Kazanjian here. I am one of the candidates for Mr. USB this year, and wanted to introduce myself so that I could meet some of you.

Been around the pageant business for nearly 30 years. 48 years old, married to husband Tavit, have a teenage son Dante, a bunch of wiener dogs and a really cool Mom. I live and work in Scottsdale, AZ. Have been a contestant coach, stylist and brand builder (hobbyist) since nearly the beginning. I'm a former state director from the Miss World America system. I've judged dozens of local, state and a few national pageants in the America, USA/Teen USA, United States and other systems. I've been a state sponsor and telecast underwriter, and a national sponsor for the Miss USA & Teen USA systems.

I've prepped and sent more than a few young women to nationals - a handful of whom have come back as semifinalists or finalists, one as a national titleholder and semifinalist at Miss World.

I've been a lifelong advocate of the power of pageantry as a platform for launching women's careers in entertainment, the media, politics and corporate leadership. I've experienced the good, the bad, the ugly and a few things in between. And I still love what we all love about this business - seeing young women have an opportunity to fundamentally change the course of their lives, and to learn and grow.

Most recently as the CEO of Yandy.com - I was the guy who brought one-piece and monokini swimsuits back to the swimsuit competition after more than a decade. I hope you liked them. :)

Looking forward to interacting more here. And, if you participate in the Mr. USB effort, would appreciate your vote!

Thom

[> Subject: Thom, I always like to ask the Mr.USB contestants a few pageant related questions, just to get to know them better. 1st question, what was the very first event that sparked your interest and love for pageantry? 2nd question, what are your favorite Miss Universe and Miss USA television productions? 3rd, who are your favorite Miss Universe and Miss USA? And 4th, what would be your ideal Miss Universe pageant production?

[> [> Subject: Thanks for your note. I'll try to be brief: 1) I watched them on TV with my family from probably 8 years old, but attended Miss Ohio USA (I grew up there) in 1986 when Halle Berry won, 2) Wow. This is hard because I love some of the old and some of the new. Pretty much 'any' Universe pageant in the mid-to-late 90s was a favorite. I especially liked '94, and I think 2000. Most recently, 2015. As for USA, I loved 1989 because my friend Gretchen Polhemus won it and was the 5th Ace from Texas. And again, I would say, 1995 when my other friend Chelsi Smith won. Last, 2012!; 3) Universe: Zuly and Chelsi Smith, hands down. USA: Gretchen Polhemus, Shanna Moakler, Alyssa Campanella and Olivia Jordan. Gosh this is hard!, and 4) Can you clarify the question a bit? Location? Staging? Something else? I want to give you a contextually good answer, so a little more from you will help me :)

[> [> [> Subject: Thom, Thank you so much for responding to my questions. Nice getting to know you. As for question number 4, all of the above, location, staging, swimsuit and gown segments, music, and coronation. If it were your fantasy production.

Apologies for the delay here - we had an 'incident' at my son's school yesterday (goofy guys in masks, goggles and flashing what turned out to be toy guns (but scared the tar out of the kids all the same), so... I wasn't here yesterday. Sorry. To your question of "Fantasy Production." Well, I'd love to have Universe hosted in a US city other than Vegas every other year, and an exotic location in the 'between' years. Not gonna lie. Love the digital screen backdrops they use now (more cost effective and easier to change.) Swimsuit? Keep it, obviously but still allow girls choice - one piece, monokinis, tankinis, bikinis. Don't try to 'standardize' - let women BE confidently beautiful in what makes them feel best. Evening gown. Love love love the color blocking. Adds a dimension to the set design where the contestants are part of the backdrop. Love the global regional blocking done most recently. Needs refined and improved, but liked it a great deal. I'm almost 'numb' to live performing artists now because they haven't been great the past few times. I'd rather MUO spend less money on live talent and more on GOOD LICENSED music to keep the pace and vibe upbeat and CURRENT (Pitbull and Fergie = not current, sorry, not sorry.)

[> [> Subject: Thanks Sin - am I allowed to have more than one favorite? If so, Gina Tolleson, Aishwarya, Priyanka and probably Rolene. I was one of the folks who prepared Maribeth Brown - Miss World America in 1993. Hope that helps!

[> [> Subject: This. The last 2 or 4 never re-appeared here again. Why bother. My 2 cents. Though I give props to ICEMAN. He won this and still posts. Many don't like him but I'm cool with him and his opinions. He's consistent. That's a great USB attribute IMHO.
