Watching old episodes of the TV show "The Nanny" and I completely forgot that the character "Mr. Sheffield" was supposed to be a judge at the Miss Universe pageant. At first I thought they were pretending, but then I saw Alicia Machado (who I noticed was kind of big for a Universe winner so I'm guessing all of that hubbub was true) and Brook Lee. I got a kick out of it being the actual people that I recognized from that time.

It got me thinking, can anyone think of other times that Miss USA and/or Miss Universe actual winners were in movies or a TV show playing their actual selves with title?

I forget exactly how it worked, but they were "deglamorized" and all covered up with sunglasses and big hats, and then surprised the contestants by revealing themselves to be beauty queens.

[> [> Subject: This reminded of The Hollywood Squares - reboot version 1988 - somewhere in Florida (Miami?) - and Monica Farrell being introduced as MISS FLORIDA USA and walking in with the blue Catalina swimsuit and white heels and being seated next to Shadoe Stevens in the center square. This was prior to Monica's debut at MISS USA 1988. BTW Shadoe Stevens was a looker back in the day, and that voice.

[> [> [> [> Subject: They had a small skit, Miss Universe '73 was very excited being in Hollywood as it was her first time visiting. She runs into Sonny Bono, and tells her, I'm a very famous person in Hollywood, Do you know who I am? MU 1973 looks at him and said "Mickey Mouse".

[> Subject: Reality Show related, between 2004 and maybe 2006, the girls would compete on Fear Factor prior to Miss USA airing. That is when pageants were fun.

[> [> Subject: I read that Georgina was also on truth or consequences. As a child, I remember a Miss Universe on TorC where Miss Universe came out in a gown for the introduction and the joke was where two guys and a disguised Miss Universe who was sitting in the middle of the two guys, and they were watching that Miss Universe interviewed in full regalia. I remember the guys saying maybe she could be Miss Universe. I don't remember if it was Georgina or Amparo, but I do remember an accent and reddish hair. I don't think it was Margarita Moran. Now that I see Georgina was on Sonny and Cher, It's possible it was her.
