I really loved the group in 2002. I don't think there was a single head-scratcher in the bunch. To be honest, I have never been a huge fan of Oxana and was surprised by her win (but I know I'm in the minority). But I loved Panama, Cyprus, Germany, South Africa, and Albania.

Curious to know if others have a favorite group of semi-finalists.

She did not place, causing many internet users and bloggers to coin the term the Ruth Ocumárez Award to signify a pageant contestant who seems guaranteed to be a finalist, but does not make the list at the end.

I've often heard that Kim Kotter just missed the semi-finals and came in 11th, but I've always wondered how anyone knows this since the prelim scores were not shown that year.

[> Subject: Love. For me, 2002 was all about Miss South Africa and Miss Cyprus. They were my One and Two, Miss Albania was certainly that year's Miss Turks and Caicos (1987). Miss India reminds me (now) of Karen Walker. The stage, the music, the serenity really made that year what it was. Oxana was a fine winner, to an extent, but I will always welcome and know Miss Panama as Miss Universe 2002.

[> [> Subject: What I loved about Albania making Top 10 was that it was the first time Albania entered the MU pageant. I remember her original head (not MUO head shot) shot reminded me so much of Jennifer Aniston.
