Subject: Thoughts after prelims

The biggest standout for me was Georgia. If she nails her final question, I could see Georgia getting their first Miss USA crown. She had one of the best walks and looked stunning in her gown. She was the only one that seemed ready for the international stage to me.

I also liked Alabama, Nebraska, Tennessee, South Carolina, Montana, Wisconsin, and Nevada.

Nebraska was the strongest blonde for me. I thought she gave two solid performances.

I liked District of Colombia in her SS but I did not like her EG at all.

I loved Illinois overall look in the evening gown. I think her styling was one of my favorites but I'm not sure if she will make the cut.

Maryland gets an honorable mention. I thought she was decent. She stuck out for me. She could be the Erin Brady of 2013.

I think California is overrated. Her gown was matronly. I have no idea how she won such a competitive state. I think she will be a clapper.

Wyoming kept doing weird facial gestures which seemed quite odd.

I was not impressed with many of the girls. I felt like many of the girls were Miss America girls. There were many head scratchers for me.

[> Subject: #1 I don't think I should judge anymore because I have apparently lost touch with what is considered "beauty" nowadays! What I saw were a lot of contestants that are apparently VERY photogenic, to the point that I barely recognized them in person. #2 Things I liked: the staging, the intro format & dresses, the outfit the choreographer was wearing, NC & VA in gowns, CA & CT in swimwear, ME & WY had faces that caught my eye. #3 Things I didn't like: that so many contestants chose gowns that didn't bring the eye naturally back up to her face & OMG when did learning how to walk in an evening gown stop being compulsory for state title holders? (((sigh))) #4 My #51 award goes to WI who clearly has no-one in her life willing to speak truth to her - shame on Denise & Craig! #5 Unlike Ian I think it's California's to lose at this point. She's pretty, tall, well educated - what more are we looking for to send to MissU - seriously what exactly - I'm open to be schooled here!

[> [> Subject: Although I didn't like the unusual hairdo, I thought WI did really well. As for California, I agree that she is probably the favorite right now, but I also think there is something a little too processed about her, especially the nose and teeth. It just depends on what IMG/MUO is looking for these days, which makes it all hard to predict.

[> [> [> Subject: Someone is going to have to explain the appeal of her gown - for me it was SO ugly that it distracted from anything she may have been doing well on-stage. She's moved to the top of my worst dressed ever list - what am I missing that you & Ian see??

[> Subject: #1. I still don't get why they have to shout during intros. Increase mic's volume perhaps? MD is close to losing her voice. #2. The choreographer will make a good host. #3. Ugh that rhyming. #4. The ones I thought gave a good/decent performance - AL, CA, CT, DC, GA, MD, MN, NE, NV, OK, SC, TN, TX, WA and WI.

[> [> Subject: Jamie had a great SS presentation, I was unimpressed by her gown, but the girl knows how to walk, her smile is engaging & I thought she had the best hair of the night. I'm certainly rooting for her, but I think she might get lost in the crowd at Miss Universe which is why I don't seeing her placing well tomorrow night.

[> [> Subject: Interesting insight. To me, Nebraska is the best blonde by a mile, followed by California. I think CT looks a bit manly or something, as well as older in her appearance. I would be shocked if CT got the call.
