Subject: My Final Miss USA Thoughts

Well, Nebraska was a great choice! Her critics are already saying that she won't do well at Universe. I think besides South Dakota, she was probably one of the best choices out of the top fifteen. She nailed the final two questions. I think she will make a great Miss USA.

Lu obviously did not like Nebraska or Maine. She kept trying to plug in Nevada and New Jersey. Remind me again why they have annoying side commentary? I can do without Lu and Carson.

North Carolina was the biggest surprise of the night for me. I did not think she would keep advancing. I believe that spot should have been reserved for the other Carolina girl (who was robbed of a top spot).

I had Oregon ranked in fourth after the SS in the preliminaries but she did not make my top fifteen because of a weak gown performance. I can see why she made the cut.

The only girl that I really questioned being in the top fifteen besides North Carolina was Texas. Both of those girls were head scratchers for me.

I was quite surprised that Florida managed to sneak a top five spot. She clearly had the most trouble in the gown portion. She could barely walk and that gown was hideous. I would have given her spot to Tennessee.

I would have included South Dakota in the top three over North Carolina. South Dakota was a great surprise.

I thought all three of the girls did a good job answering the final question. They each personalized the question which made them somewhat relatable.

I loved the hosts. I did not care for the musical performers.

I found it odd that Paula Shugart was a member of the "selection committee". I don't think she should have a say in who wins the crown.

It was great that each of the girls got more screen time rather than rushing their performances!!!

Overall, this show was much better than the one last year.

I was also happy with the final question responses: no cringe-worthy moments. As far as Miss USA not doing well at Miss Universe, it raises the question of whether that is what the "selection committee" should be looking for. To me, that is not the top priority in choosing Miss USA. I'd rather have a Miss USA like Nebraska over a "fierce" Lu Serra clone with her eyes on Miss Universe. Overall, this was my favorite Miss USA since 2014 when Nia won.

[> Subject: I thought it was refreshing for them to finally be so upfront about that fact that Paula influences the selection! I thought the public voting aspect was silly - I think is was just a way for them to gauge how many people were watching before the ratings come out. I agree that the side comments were ridiculous, the unknown cowboy during evening gown was awful, but I LOVED seeing & hearing 98 - the old boys are holding up well! Nick & Vanessa should be their permanent hosts - perfection! I thought every finalist who changed her gown made a mistake - I thought Florida had lost her mind! The final 2 looked more like a couple of MAO gals than Miss Universe contenders making me wonder when the merger would be announced - ha! Thrilled for the Vanbros team - the person I was watching with suggested they must know where the bodies are hidden, but in reality they're just top-notch at prepping their contestants so well done to them!

[> [> Subject: I agree about Nick and Vanessa - they were like Donny and Marie for me. The Paula Shugart appearance was an obvious observation. NEBRASKA and KANSAS - who knew? Though Hailey Colborn could've been a tiny more upbeat in speaking with Vanessa in the CHI chill lounge about her win. I thought she was way subdued, but pretty enough. FLORIDA - no words - she was Top 15 at best for me. I loved the "unknown cowboy" wailing - it was the only time during the contest where I finally "got" NEVADA. Her singing right along with him made me like her as having a cool personality, simply because she did nothing for me when she won her state title, followed by Top 15. I definitely warmed up to her when she reached the Top 3. Congratulations for her third place finish. Unlike most, I really grew to like NORTH CAROLINA as she continued. She was no where on my radar but I thought she was really cute at the end. She and board fave Audra Mari now share TEEN and USA first runner-up titles.
