Subject: Your favorite Top 5 at Miss Universe?

This is a tricky question for me, because there is usually at least one contestant that I just don't quite get.

But... I am going to say 2015.

I thought Philippines, Colombia, and France were all great, and Australia was very strong. For me, the weakest link was USA, Olivia Jordan, who I never warmed up to, but I can see why she was in the Top 5.

Which year's Top 5 stands out most to you?

[> Subject: Tough question, Doot! My favorite Top 5 would be 1998: Wendy (TnT) was the true embodiment of a Miss Universe and looked absolutely regal that night. Veruska (Venezuela) is my favorite Miss Venezuela ever. Her face was perfection, she earned the highest SS score ever recorded at that point - until Oxana came around - and was my personal winner. Joyce (Puerto Rico) wasn't the brightest bulb but she offered comedic relief and her sexy looks and projection managed to ward off the majority of the competition. Claudia (Colombia) is probably my weakest link here. Nice gown but her masculine face didn't do it for me. Shawnae (USA) is someone most on here forget because they preferred Shawna (1st RU from Cali) but I thought Shawnae was very pretty, had a great bod, chose a refreshing yellow gown that suited her aura and had a chill personality. <img src="https://i.pinimg.com/474x/0b/54/21/0b5421a1ebd9df64a881727f5e294036--miss-universe--trinidad.jpg">

[> Subject: My favorite top 5 of the 70s was 1974, the 80s was 1983, the 90s was 1994, the 2000s was 2002, and the 2010s was 2012. All were very exciting to watch.

[> Subject: I'm going with1999. While I cannot say that all 5 were on my favorites list, I could easily have seen each of them with the crown. Leading up to competition night, I was all about Venezuela and Botswana. During the competition, I begin to think that the crown was going to Spain or Philippines. South Africa, though not a favorite of mine, was also strong. 1999 was a very solid Top 5.

[> [> [> Subject: Indeed. Plus, that entire production in Trinadad remains one of my favorites (....only one way, to do the limbo!!!). And, the annoucement of the Top 10...bone chilling!!! I'm laughing right now thinking about how many times I said "Ohhh Sh*t" as it became more and more apparent that at least one sash factor country was not going to make the cut. That's pageant night excitement right there. Finally I know that she wasn't a traditional semi-finalist, but I LOVE that Ghana made the Top 10.

[> [> [> [> Subject: I remember being so excited that Mpule won. All through the pageant I kept thinking "Wouldn't it be something if Botswana won?" but I just assumed that it couldn't possibly play out that way, mainly because my favorite almost never seems to win, and Botswana was about as non-sash factor as you can get, LOL.

[> [> Subject: 1999 had me sitting at the edge of my seat. Loved the production but was nervous India would make the Top 5 and steamroll over everyone thus clinching the crown, which I'm sure she would have, as she placed 1st in Top 10 interview. Luckily, her SS score kept her out of the Top 5. lol

[> [> [> Subject: India 1999 ended up 6th after the semifinals; there was 0.11 difference between India and Philippines who was 5th after the semifinals. Had the cuts been Top 10/Top 6/Top 3 that year, MU 1999 would've had an entirely different result. I believe India 1999 is the reason interviews were eliminated from the semifinals as of MU 2000.

[> Subject: MU 2010, 2015, 2017, 2018 were all awesome. In USA, I donít understand how Nevada and Arkansas 2019 advanced at all.

[> [> Subject: I agree with Nevada. Her making the first cut was a bit of a surprise (considering Emmy Adams & Lauren York were wrongfully excluded as SF's). However, I was pleasantly surprised AR made the cut, although I didn't think she'd make it as far as she did (but I was happy she did).

[> [> Subject: What an outstanding year! This was also the last time we had Miss Universe and Miss World sisters placing 1st and 2nd! There was so much beauty in that Top 5 even the stage couldn't handle it! ;)
