Subject: The recent winners of Miss USA are selected based on their occupations and race more than anything else. 2016 (Military Captain), 2017 (Scientist), 2018 (Nurse), 2019 (Lawyer). I'm all for diversity when it is upheld by merit and in the case of pageants this = stunning looks, great stage presence, proper interview skills and that indescribable X factor. NONE of the most recent four Miss USA winners check off those boxes for me. Miss Universe is much better in that they crown winners who do check off most of these boxes. I agree that Catriona is not facially the most attractive and she registers as cross-eyed in almost all of her photos but she brought it on that stage and gave South Africa (whom I found more physically beautiful) a run for her money. Iris also had a huge chin and eye bags but she too brought it when it counted and looked stunning the night she won.
