Are you guys surprised that almost 8 years after Jenna Talačková competed at Miss Universe Canada, we have seen few transgender delegates in state and national pageant.
I remember that in 2013, at Miss California USA there was a transgender delegate that had left her work at a juice bar to compete at Miss USA in her only and last year of eligibility. She did not make top 20.
And around three years ago, there was a pageant contestant in a Pageants Northwest competition and if I am not mistaken, she made it to the semis.
There was a 1st runner-up at Miss US Virgin Islands 2 years ago. And last year a contestant in Mongolia. Any other openly transgender contestants?

I still think Jenna was the best of them as she has a nice soft side... and yet can still be fierce! Rewatch her performance at Miss Universe Canada here: https://youtu.be/qQAJKy0nJpc

[> Subject: The fact that we even had ONE transgender contestant in MU is quite remarkable. When that rule was changed, as a consequence of Jenna's lawsuit in 2012,I didn't think that just in 6 years a country would choose a transgender as their representative and that we would see a transgender woman compete in MU so soon. I thought decades might go by before that happened. And I still think that Angela Ponce might've been ahead of her time. Hence all the criticism and attacks fans leveled against her. I don't expect many transgender women entering and winning mainstream pageants yet. For a transgender woman to win a national pageant is and will be particularly challenging for a while. Angela's case was the the exception to the rule and she was helped by a then new national director and a team of Venezuelan guys living in Spain who basically wanted to make history choosing the first transgender national titleholder.
