Subject: Flashback: Miss Universe 2006 Swimsuit

This swimsuit competition has always stood out in my mind. Wondering what others think.

A few of my impressions about the production...

- The music was just right for SS. One of my favorite SS songs ever.

- I don't like having a Top 20, especially in SS. It just feels like too much. This is a case where less is more, in my opinion. I think 15 is max for SS or EG on finals night.

- I hated the "commentary" by Carson Kressley. He just made obvious jokes about the names of the countries. Anyone could do that. At least Shandi had some substantive comments.

And some thoughts on the contestants...

- Puerto Rico just nailed it. She came out first and no one could touch her afterwards. I was never a huge fan of hers, but I could see why she won.

- I loved Trinidad & Tobago and wish she had gone farther. I think this is where the expression "the face of the pageant" originated.

- I never got Paraguay or why she made it to the Top 5. Even Carson and Shandi didn't sound too thrilled with her in SS.

Curious to know what others think!

[> Subject: It was at the heart of Telemundo years and influence. It is not surprising Zuleyka won. Her reign was I believe the shortest of any Miss Universe and she came off quite childish in her close up. She had that childish laugh. But she nailed SS and EG. Also, this was the only time a Puerto Rican Miss Universe had some visible non European ancestry, a bit of Black and a bit of Taino imo. Puerto Ricans used to send the palest and the whitest looking girls for years and years and hopefully that trend changed here. Paraguay and USA had no business in top 5 in my opinion... while Canada should have been in. Also, this was Ukraine's first semi finalist and she should have easily been top 10 if not top 5.
